burnout mod=new tires

I just got done doing the burnout mod(right way at ecu) on my 08. Just got back from testing her out and damn, the rear tires wore down fast. They are goodyear SRA's and are strictly a highway tire so I planned on ditching them anyways but never ecpected them to wear down so quick.

Next thing, I had the scan tool hooked up to verify the tps reading. With the switch off(throttle cut) it read 38% and with the switch on(burnout mode) the highest it got was 88%. That is the highest reading I ever got even at higher speeds. Plus my truck doesnt seem to cut the throttle down till a given speed. Not sure though.

Still need to find a way to turn off the abls. It was a pita when launching. I could feel it kick in and slow the truck down.

So if anyone can verify the tps reading or lead me in the right direction with the abls i would be great.

BTW, love this site.

Re: burnout mod=new tires

Nice - I'm looking to do the mod at the ECU on my 08. You didn't get any pictures of the wiring when you did this at all eh?

Btw, ABLS is the work of the devil. Hopefully UpRev can find a way to shut it off when they crack the ECU.

Re: burnout mod=new tires

I will be posting up some pics soon. Its easy though. I seen a write up somewhere here. Its the same on the 08's. At the ecu(behind the battery) there are two plugs. The bottom one has the wire you need. Its the red wire with a white strip. Dont get it confused cause there is a white wire with a red strip there too. Just hook up the swtch to that wire.

BTW, the plug covers on the ecu kinda suck.

Re: burnout mod=new tires

Are you saying that with the burnout mod your throttle is staying open more under 40mph? Maybe you were getting such high TPS readings because your tires were spinning faster than you were going. This has definately sparked my curiosity.

Re: burnout mod=new tires

So on your 08, with the switch done at the ECU are you able to turn this on and still have your brake lights function?

Re: burnout mod=new tires

MikeB- Not quite sure yet. The tps readings were higher and after it hooked up it seemed to pull harder than it did with the mod switched off. Im gonna check it out more later today, maybe have the wife drive so I can focuse more on the scan tool.

Anmut- yes doing it at the ecu lets everything function normaly, as far as the brake lights anyways. Just lets you get full power with the brake applied. The thing that is fun is attempting a burnout then switching it on while still on the gas. Its nuts.

I also am making a second connection for this. It will allow you to cut the power at all rpms and speeds. Kind of a "cant beat on my truck" mod for when your friends use it. That switch will be hidden.

As far as getting some pics up, my camera sucks. Its pretty strait forward though.

Re: burnout mod=new tires

Sweet. So you're going to put two switches on the line? Sneaky man!

Re: burnout mod=new tires

not quite. The wire at the ecu only does one thing. Cuts throttle voltage when the connection is made. So what I plan on doing is makeing it think the brake is on. If you go out to your truck and take out the bottom pressure switch off your brake pedal (whole thing). It comes off easy. Then with the switch hanging ther go drive the truck. You can still get up to speed and drive normally just that the ecu is only giving you 35-40% throttle. Try taking off with some decent pedal, then reach down and push the pressure switch in. The truck comes alive.

So if I run a second switch to the wire at the ecu then it will cut power and no one will be beating on my truck but me.

The would be no ill effects. Lights still work and the engine knows no different.

Re: burnout mod=new tires

Yeah. It reads higher tps readings with the switch on. Does seem to pull alot better but I dont trust the but dyno. With the switch off and having the abls disconnected(plugs un hooked) I get moderate wheel spin from a stop. Switch on and I get wheel spin for quite a ways and a nice bark when it shifts. Wish I had a dyno near by. Would realy like to get some solid numbers.
I will take a vid of my readings this weekend and see what you think.

BTW, how do I upload vids?? Never done it so I need help there.

Re: burnout mod=new tires

ahh, everything can have a switch.

Yeah, I'll be putting a post up later saturday on how to bypass it. I am doing the wiring for that as we speak along with the hellas.

BTW, that is crazy stuff. Wallmart sells hellas 550's and 550ff's.

Anyways, stay tuned.
