My CUSTOM cold air intake

Hey guys, i was doing some research and found a guy with a titan who cut his stock air tube running to his air box and just put on a cone filter. I decided to do the same thing to see how it worked out. I definetly can feel and hear a difference. I was just wondering how you guys think that it compares to all the others like AEM and K&N. What kind of gains do you think i got?? Thanks

Re: My CUSTOM cold air intake

I did this awhile back.

http://www.titantalk.com/forums/tita...highlight=poor

I ended up replacing the filter with an AEM Dryflow and replaced the air box with a baffle like the AEM. That worked better than my original design in the link above. It helped the top end and midrange nicely. I was happy with my setup until I got a wild hair up my *** (and alot of Alcohol in my system) and bought an Injen Powerflow on Ebay. I got it new for $271 shipped. Anyway, the Injen is a night and day difference from my homemade system. The low end and midrange throttle response was much better.

All in all, the Poor Man's CAI works well for the $$ spent, but nothing beats a good tuned intake.

Re: My CUSTOM cold air intake

Ha, your the guy i actually copied!! How much better is the Injen intake? Is it worth enough that i should spend the extra money on it rather than just keep the home made one?

What is different about the one that you have, is the air tube bigger or what??

Thanks

P.S.( In case you cant tell, I am a newbie.)

Re: My CUSTOM cold air intake

The intake tube on the Injen is bigger. Unfortunately there is really no way to home make a different intake tube because the size, bends, and location of the MAF will change the way the truck runs and if it's not right you could run lean.

I was suprised the increase in low to midrange throttle response I got with the Injen. Is it worth the money?? Only if you get a good deal. Even though I would never go back to the homemade CAI, I still think that it is very good bang for the buck.

Re: My CUSTOM cold air intake

I just thought that you may want to try something that I didn't before moving on. Since you have the airbox, see if you can get a tube from the box to somewhere behind the grill or in the drivers side foglight hole (if you don't have foglights). I think my original home made setup was screaming to be converted to a ram air intake.

Re: My CUSTOM cold air intake

I seen a pretty crafty design the other day...

A guy i work with has a Dodge and he purchased a CAI. after installing he got to looking and actually modified his stock intake to wrap around the CAI and hide it. The cone filter was inside the air box but the air box was gutted all around and was basically a lid with 2 sides. the engine looked factory stock but it had a CAI hiding benithe it. it was pretty clever and useless, but crafty none the less.
