TBS - huh, can you repeat that?

I noticed a company on Ebay selling TBS systems. They had 2 listings that seem to contradict each other.

Auction #1 - YOU ARE BIDDING ON A "HELIX" 1 INCH BILLET THROTTLE BODY SPACER: Throttle Body Spacer bolts in front of the throttle body to cause a turbulent spinning action of the incoming air as it passes through the throttle body. This causes the air/fuel mixture to atomize more completely, producing tremendous gains in mid-range power and overall efficiency. This effect will improve drivability of the vehicle as well as increase performance and quicken acceleration. Torque gains between 900 to 3500 RPM, increase towing capability. Gas mileage could increase 2-4 miles per gallon.

Auction #2 - YOU ARE BIDDING ON A "HELIX" 1 INCH BILLET THROTTLE BODY SPACER : Throttle Body Spacer bolts in front of the throttle body to cause a powerful smooth action of the incoming air as it passes through the throttle body.

The second auction is cheaper - I guess you aren't paying for the helix.

The images shown for each auction are different - one has ridges the other is smooth. Not sure how the smooth would work as the stock throttle is also smooth.

I don't think anyone has shown any measurable gains from them, but I don't see how it hurts anything either. And if you like the whistle sound they make, then go ahead!

I hurts because the claims made are complete bull$hit. They are ripping off people. I guess you could look at it as a tax on the uneducated or gullible. However, this is something that my mother (who is in her 70s) would fall for. I'd be wanting to kick some a$$ if one of these a$$holes ripped my mother off.

I've heard it benefits the buttdyno a lot more than the scientific one... If they were cheaper, it might be worth it, but not at $100......

Re: TBS - huh, can you repeat that?

I have the Ebay TBS that swirls the air (the one with ridges). I never felt a power increase, but after I took it off (whistle was annoying my wife) I noticed a 1mpg drop in freeway mileage. I think it helps a little, but shouldn't be the first mod on your list.

This is the exact one I have:

Re: TBS - huh, can you repeat that?

alot of things sold on Ebay expecially which claim performance for low prices deserve to have skeptism. But... with TBS I don't know, there are many people in here that have name brand ones and love them... so if a company is selling a no name brand one on ebay who is to say it is any different than the 100 one with a brand name on it? Now I am not going to go out and get one but...
