Be afraid, be very afraid!! LOL!!

The members of the ‘Broke the first motor but decided to stick the Stillen s/c on a brand new motor anyway’ have come together to come up with a way to remove the dreaded speed limiter.

As most of you know, I used the Technosquare ecu with the hope of removing the speed limiter. That did not work. The owner of Technosquare tried several times without success. Bummer.

I asked Uprev about tuning the ecu in conjunction with the Stillen p-back. I was told they prefer not to tune systems with piggybacks. Bummer to the second power.

Kunato and had been talking with Jared and he said he could remove the speed limiter in spite of the p-back.

“Yeah right”, we thought. We had heard that before. What if they were right? Who would be the one to try? Kunato and I tried to convince each other to go first. We both had great reasons to not be the guinea pig. His wife is skilled in knife fighting and my wife had acquired an iron skillet from her mom shortly after I blew the first motor.

We had to find someone else willing to place their life in the hands of their wife. We thought of Galen. However, he is smarter than he looks and he never replied to my PMs. Now what do we do? Due to the fact that Kunato is a one man gang that has a badge and a gun, he convinced me to do it.

I called Jared to ask him if the speed limiter doesn’t work, would I get my back money. He said sure. I then asked him why he was sure that he could succeed where Technosquare had failed. Jared said Technosquare was used to doing G35s and 350s but not Titans. Here was the clincher. The code for the speed limiter has to be removed in two locations for the G35 and 350 but three locations in the Titan ecu.

Bingo! He convinced me that he knew what he was talking about.

After getting Osiris, I called two of the Big 3, (RB and Tommy), for advice. After a few hiccups I found out why my laptop was not reading the cable and ecu. It was due to the converter I plugged into the power outlets to make sure my laptop didn’t die during the loading of the maps. I have an old Dell and the battery does not hold a charge for long. I had to use the laptop without the converter.

Here we go. All is going well. During the whole process I was praying that the battery would last! It did! I finished all of the steps and turned over the motor…

Nothing!!!! Sweat starts to pour down my face. I need to move out before my wife gets home!! Relax man! Try it again…

Success! I have a 2004 so I can have three maps. I ordered the speed limiter removal, speed limiter removal with the new redline and a valet map.

My wife comes home and I tell her I want to datalog the truck. She has no clue of what I’m talking about. She does know that I will be driving briskly. She warns me that there are cops everywhere. She is right! I could not test the removal of the speed limiter.

Sigh! I did test the valet mode. I dropped the truck off at the dealership without telling them what I did. It was there for an oil change, alignment and tire balance with rotation. The mechanic calls me from his cell phone asking me what I did to the truck.

What are you talking about? What did you do to my truck?? LOL! I told him about the map and he felt relieved.

For a number of weeks, I had not been able to test the speed limiter. With the 285/60/18s on the truck, the ecu would shut me down at 110 instead of 117. Twice I ran up to 110 without any signs of the truck letting up. However, I was not convinced that it was removed.

On the 6th of May, I was able to check again. On my way to work, there was a 2 mile stretch of open road with the closest car being 2.5 miles in front. I was not able to datalog the truck because whenever I planned on doing the run, I would not have a clear road or the cops were out. After I made sure there were no cops, I opened him up.

I started from 70 and quickly hit 100. The truck is pulling strongly. 105…110…117, the truck shifts into OD, 120 +. I could have very easily buried the needle but I was confidant that the speed limiter had been removed.

Nice!! I now have to datalog at those speeds so that I can look at the data and share the data with Uprev and the Big 3.

I will have to go to the track soon before it gets busy. The part that sucks is the fact that test and tune happens only on Wednesday. The track is over 1.5 hours away. I’ve asked a buddy of mine to go up there with me to film my run(s). It’s going to be tough because it’s in the middle of the work week and he works 2nd shift.

He also said I have to have a helmet. Geeze, more money to spend! I won’t use DRs because I am tired of spending money on this truck.

So, there you have it! Beware of the supercharged trucks that can run well past 140!!!!

Re: Be afraid, be very afraid!! LOL!!

So, can you settle the longterm question? What does a S/C'd Titan without speed limiter run for both time, and speed in a decent 1/4 mile? This is the subject of many "Performance Forum" threads. You would seem to be the man to give us that answer!

Great job, and please keep the info coming!

I want to know too! I hope with minimal traction I will be in the low 13s.

Hopefully the TC and VB will hold. I don't see why the tranny wouldn't hold.

The fastest Titan on the planet puts down a lot more torque than mine. That would be Toomanymods.

You can get DOT approved drag-radials, not as good as slicks but they should pass and give you a good bit more traction...
