Exhaust tips getting dull

I just recently bought a magnaflow compleate dual exhaust system all stainless and only about 1k miles on it and my tips are turing like a goldish and not coming off. also i thought since it was staineless steel the whole system would keep is color a little better than aluminum. should i send the tips back or what care should i take with them

here is my system

Re: Exhaust tips getting dull

From running various exhaust on my Kawasaki 636, a few of which have had stainless mid pipes, it tends to go goldish with the heat.

Re: Exhaust tips getting dull

you need a double walled tip also depending on how far your pipe is in the tip makes a big diff the farther in the less heat farther back you get more chance of color change...

Re: Exhaust tips getting dull

I have the double walled magnaflo tips and they are only starting to turn slightly goldish on the inside seam where the exhaust comes out...( right at the edge).

Re: Exhaust tips getting dull

That's stainless steels natural tendency to change color with heat. I personally don't mind it. It's a lot better than cheesy chrome plated tips that flake and rust within the same time frame...........lol.

Re: Exhaust tips getting dull

they do that because the stainless is cheap! I have a set of stainless steel tips on my 08 that i purchased from never-rust.com. and they have yet to change to a yellow color. I've had them on no for about 6 months. I'm here to tell ya they are the best tips you can buy! buddy of mine has had a set on his chevy for going on 3 years now and they still dont have any yellow to them! never-rust makes really awesome quality products.

Re: Exhaust tips getting dull

Go to your local motorcycle shop and ask for a bottle of Blue-Away.
This is used to remove the blue/bronzing from motorcycle headers, and
should work with your chrome tips.

Re: Exhaust tips getting dull

The tip on my JBA is still in very nice condition. Maybe Magnaflow cheaped out on their materials?
