Re: Jet 69138 Powr-Flo Mass Air Sensor

RESULTS ARE IN!

I screwed up my first logs, so had to rerun. Newbie error, I rarely "Performance Log". Got my brain in gear and results 1, 2, 3 are for the JET. Results 3, 4, 5, 6 are for the OEM.

My conclusion is "neutral". I can not give a "high" recommendation to purchase, until somebody does a better test. Either with Drag Radials to ensure no slippage on a street run, or use a Dyno to measure HP gains, if any.

AVG Gain was .018 seconds, but inconclusive IMHO.

I have a 2WD CC with Highway tread Tires, 2 Tool boxes in rear, and a full tank of gas (93 Octane). I'm running kinda heavy day to day. Temp was 47 degrees, humidity fairly low I think. It was all run on a very flat highway, but different direction. I simply floored it, did not power brake, as I'm on street tires. I really didn't see any slope to the highway though, and I used to be a Geodetic Surveyor. Improvement looked like about a .018 improvement, but includes a best run of 6.70 with the OEM unit, so there goes any proof of real gains.

I did take a close look at the unit, and it is an OEM as has been stated. So, no Aero improvements to this.

JET: 6.76
JET: 6.73
JET: 6.75
JET AVG: 6.747

OEM: 6.79
OEM: 6.81
OEM: 6.76
OEM: 6.70
OEM AVG: 6.765

It is certainly the easiest Mod, besides a Timing Advance. Would be better if the JET Label was showing on top of the Sensor, instead of the bottom!

Could not upload .csv file here, but results are shown.

UPDATE: JET has Dyno results to be posted, showing 5+ HP Gain. That would make sense to me. Reasonable and consistant with a .018 gain on average.

How can one part for so many applications be expected to produce the advertised numbers? Thats crazy.

May I introduce you to the phrase they love? "Up to". lol.

They rarely show the one application that did achieve that max gain, but constantly use its numbers to advertise the entire product line. Exageration sells. They take us for fools, don't they? Anyone golf or fish?

Yep firelife25, any Horsepower is good Horsepower. It's an endless quest...

So the same performance part for the Titan and 350Z will fit on a Versa?

Re: Jet 69138 Powr-Flo Mass Air Sensor

Yep, it fits the Versa!

It just measures volume of air passing by. (I think it measures the Temp too, as an Intake Temp is in Cipher readings. Lots of pins inside of the Sensor.)

We use the same Flow meter in an 8" Water Pipe, that we use in a 42" Water Pipe (Sewer system rehab work). The basic mechanism is same, just adapted for application. It keeps the technical parts standardized, cheaper to produce.

Now, should I open up my OEM unit to see what is inside, such as just diodes and resistors, or a IC? I wonder what they have done to make a change in "programming" as they put it. Reflash an EEPROM, or an Engineering Change (EC) to the Diodes/Resistor network? I am inclined to believe a simple resistor added to one location, changes the curve of the output, much like the Ebay items. But, this one being done correctly, since it is application (Nissan Part Number) specific, not generic, and it is from JET.

Yes, I trust JET to have done something, as they are a reputable and well established company. And No, I won't be opening the JET unit to directly compare. I just want to see what is inside the OEM little doohickey.

Re: Jet 69138 Powr-Flo Mass Air Sensor

Apparently my comments where overlooked when this first came up. This will not gain your hp by itself. all it does is meter airflow. If you are force inducted or making over 100hp over stock then your stock AFS will "max out". Im sure this one is made like uprevs high reading AFS. It wont peg out and will be able to read higher readings to generate more power by giving the motor the fuel it needs to run perfect AFR's. The part is good your just not making enough power yet to use it. It wont hurt anything to run it but you may need to change the settings in uprev tuning roms to accomidate

Re: Jet 69138 Powr-Flo Mass Air Sensor

UpRev has responded to our thoughts on this. UpRevs HiFlow Sensor has a radically different output, that MUST be tuned immediately. Consequently, the JET Sensor is nothing like the UpRev unit, as it is advertised (and tested by myself) to operate without tuning. So, the JET may or may not have any change from an OEM unit.

Here is what I posted on another site, (where a chart is posted), in response to UpRevs offer test my JET Sensor and report on it...

UpRev has volunteered to test the actual JET MAF Sensor, to see if there is any difference in its output verses the OEM Sensor. They claim (and understandably so) that there should not be, unless it was a radical change for which immediate tuning would have been required. I am shipping my JET Sensor to them, they should have it by Dec 3rd, and will test it quickly, and give us detailed results. Their concern is that if only a mildly modified (Remember, advertised as no tuning required) Sensor, it would cause the engine to run lean, which can be a dangerous thing. I will update with the data as soon as it is made available. Current graph above, indicates little if any change. We should get very fine detail from their report. Big Thanks go to UpRev.

This will not work for boosted trucks. It will max out like the stock MAF.

Re: Jet 69138 Powr-Flo Mass Air Sensor

QShip is correct. No surprise there ...

JET advertises it as a drop in replacement, not needing any tuning. That is exactly what makes it controversial. If no tuning, then what is different? The higher flow unit UpRev sells, needs immediate tuning. OEM is about 4.5 Volt, where the Hi Flow is 2.3 or 2.6 something Volt for same near max flow...

Mine shipped to UpRev today, they will have it Tuesday, EOB.

We will have all the facts as soon as they report them. An OEM vs JET output curve. Nothing more to say until then...
