Retrofit Projector Headlights

This will be my Headlight Mod V3.0

These lights have a little bit of Titan modding history. They were originally from rcantu, then I purchased them last year from Seranin.

These lights are retrofitted with E55 BMW Hella Bixenon DS2 3" projectors.

I'm not a big fan of halos so I got rid of those. I'm not putting any LED strips in the housing. I'm gonna keep it very simple.

The housing was a smoke color and I repainted it gloss black. I also painted the rest of the "chrome" reflector gloss black.

I soaked the Apollo shrouds in bleach to get rid of the "chrome" and I painted them a smoke color.

I'm still waiting for a few things to arrive until I can seal them up.

Re: Retrofit Projector Headlights

I have a question, if you use Bixenon projectors does that mean that both high and low beams will operate through the projectors or will you still use the factory high beam location? can you just use the projector for the low beams? Sorry if this doesn't make sense.

Re: Retrofit Projector Headlights

Sorry not for sale. Maybe when the 2nd gen Titan comes out. lol

Low beam and high beam will come from the same projector.
The high beam bulb is still in place but it is not wired to anything.

I will use the stock high beam location for something else.

Re: Retrofit Projector Headlights

Hehe, just thought I'd ask. Hey so with those projectors coming out of the bmw, does that mean they come with the 'cutoff' or is that headlight housing specific?

Projectors are supposed to give a "cutoff". There are other factors like the quality of the lens, the quality of the HID bulbs, etc. Check out HIDPlanet.com

From what I read from the past owners, these projectors have great cutoff.

I have yet to see a How-To and parts list for an HID retrofit and am really interested in doing it.

Did you use the BMW ballast or a Titan specific ballast and bulb?

What is involved in physically getting the old housing to provide enough room for the projector lens?

How is the projector fastened to the OEM headlight?

Is there power adjustability to the projectors or do you adjust the headlight like normal?

If they are power adjustable, did you add a switch to the interior?

Just a few questions I have and am sure other members will benefit from them too. Thanks!

Chris C.

Re: Retrofit Projector Headlights

HIDPlanet.com is a great place to find a how to.

Since I bought these already retrofitted I can only tell you the projector is drilled to the headlight reflector. The back part of the headlight is bored out to fit the rear of the projector. *** Correction, the back part of the headlight is not bored out.*** I'm still able to adjust the projector up and down if I needed to simply by using the headlight adjustment screw. Since I'm the third owner, I assume it's already adjusted properly.

The ballasts that came with the lights weren't working and I'll end up using some ballasts from DDM.

With Bixenon projectors, the low beam powers the light. When you hit the high beam, it moves the shutter or arm to allow more light out. No extra switches are needed.

I'll provide a wiring guide when I get it all done.

Re: Retrofit Projector Headlights

Just some pics to update this project:

Here's a 194 bulb holder retrofitted to a 9005 base.

The amber LED will flash when the regular white LEDs flash.
I wanted LEDs but was hesitant to use LED strips. I decided on a setup where I can easily replace the LEDs if they go bad.

^^^Click the pic to show video.^^^

Testing the projector:

I like how some of the light goes through the holes of the shroud.

Just a quick peek at the cutoff. I just aimed the headlight towards the wall so it's not completely accurate yet.

Re: Retrofit Projector Headlights

Project complete:

I'm happy to be part of the Retrofit Projector Club.

The projector functions as low/high beam.
The 3157 LED bulbs functions as parking/turn signal
The 9005 to 194 amber LED bulbs functions as turn signal.

Headlight Projector and Fog Light Projector Cutoff
Note: The door, door frame and wall are throwing off the cutoff.

The headlight projectors came with 4300K Philips.
When they go bad, I'll change them to 5000K.

The foglight projectors are 5000K.

The Hella 500 Black Magic are 5000K (angled slightly higher than fogs)

More night pics to follow.....

Re: Retrofit Projector Headlights

quick question, did you have to rewire anything to make the projector work the high beams?
