Painted My engine Cover

Paint used: Krylon Fusion; Red

Time: +/- 3 1/2 hrs (about 30 minutes to decide what I wanted to do and tape, 30-45 minutes to complete painting, let set for about 2 hours.)

Steps:
1) Cleaned Cover w/ 409 and dried it.
2) Taped off sections.
3) Sprayed about 10-15 coats (lol, seriously about 2/3 of the can).
4) Took tape off
5) Let sit for 2 hours.

Pics:

heat resistant...

You shouldn't have to use heat resistant paint. After prolong driving, I tested the temp of the cover... it never got too hot that I couldn't leave my hand on it. Not too sure about the '04, but the '05 have it sitting on some rubber stopper with lot of air space between the intake tracks and cover.

But if you must... a mid level high temp paint should be able to deal with the heat, if any. You really don't need the stuff that's graded for painting engine blocks.

Nice work. How did you tape off the V 8 5.6 ? Looks very professional.

The Krylon fusion is rated to like 200 degrees....so I hope it will withstand.

Taping. I just took masking tape, 1/2" wide i think, and taped from one side to the next Until the letter were covered, then I took a razor blade and cut around the letters. Up close it looks like ****, but from the distance you see it in my pictures....you can't tell...so I'm pleased.

....Now I need to clean the engine bay..lol looks lasty...

One more to the list of members w/ painted cover. Mine's all red with black lettering. Peacekeeper's two tone is awsome, didn't have the patients to tape things off. Now I'm waiting on a "Texas" badge like the rear except I will put it on the cover opposite the V8 5.6
EDIT: I just now realized Batman's cover is like mine, I could of used his picture instead of taking my own.

I think I'm going to have to show you guys up and do mine With Duplicolor Metalcast :P

Only problem is that the base coat looks so good I usualy have trouble convincing myself to add color to it :P

I always do a light sand ing to open the pores, and the metal cast is heat resistant paint too.

I'm planning on using the Duplicolor Metalcast also. I bought the Blue color to match my ACT grounding wires. It's on my to do list tomorrow!
