New Back Up Light Installed!!!

This was a easy and best of all cheap mod. I found these lights on the cleaqrence table at the local Auto Zone. They were $15. I tapped into the trailer harness reverse wire. Took about 30 minutes start to finish. What ya'll think about them. Sorry bout the pic quality, junk camera.

looks great, and functional too. btw, did you put some different bulbs in the normal reverse lights, they look very bright too.

I used 921 LL sylvania bulbs, I think they are stock size. Prolly just the new tail housings.

If you tow and therefore have a third set of reverse lights than be careful. A lot of us that off road have additional reverse lights in the rear for night runs. We even add a switch so we can activate when stopped and outside the truck. However, we run them off a relay and not direct. Use the actual reverse voltage to activate the relay if you want but tap or run additional 12 volts to the additional lights.

Guys that have not used a relay have had many different issues and problems when they over draw that reverse circuit.

I thought of a relay, and used one for the front spot lights, but I dont think these draw enough current to have any negative impact on the trailer circuit anyway.

It could when you have a trailer hooked up though. I have mine drawing power out of the 12V outlet in the bed and the relay triggered by the back-up light wiring. I don't figure I'll ever be using that outlet AND the back-up lights at the same time.

Looks great. One of the Mods I've planned on doing a long time, getting close. The idea of the wire in the bed is excellent. Never thought of that before, sound logic too. I don't have an outlet there, but will look for the wire first. XE CC BT 06.

OK I did it... I put a relay inline and used the power from the 12v outlet in the bed. The wire is underneath next to the bedside box. There's 2 wires in loom, Black and Yellow. The yellow wire is the Hot. The signal wire is the yellow w/red in the factory trailer plug.

I dont have the 12V outlet in the bed, Anyone knows if the wirings is still there?

Look right next to the bedside storage box... If there is split loom there with 2 wires in it Yellow, and blk then thats the wiring.

Well done! The tint I have makes backing up a "guessing game". I need to do this mod for sure.

Got any pics showing how you attached those lights? I am assuming you somehow bolted them to the trailer hitch but couldn't tell.
