I use 89, 87 resulted in slight pinging and 89 took care of it. Using a higher octane than is necessary to stop pinging or detonation is a waste of money, just FYI.

I'll gladly pay a few extra dollars at the pump than blow a motor, or melt holes in my pistons.

Won't happen with a Titan due to low-grade gas. A little thing called the ECU and ignition timing.
Do what makes you feel better, but running 91/92 in an engine designed for 87 is a waste of money and does nothing for power* or longevity.
* The only time higher octane fuel will result in more power with a stock tune is if the ECU has retarded timing to prevent pinging. If running the next grade up (87 -> 89) allows the stock tune to run at full advance with no pinging then running 91/92 will make zero difference. Running an Uprev or 2-degree advance generally requires running a higher octane fuel, again due to the timing advance and the higher octane preventing pinging. If you get the 2-degree and run 87 then there's a high chance the ECU will retard the timing to prevent pinging, making it so the advantages of the 2-degree advance are never realized.
If people understand why things happen and how things work then they have a better chance at making an educated decision about maintaining their vehicle, don't you think?

Plain ole 87 octane here. Also wondering why this is in the picture and media section?

I use the cheapest around here, 85 octane (just what's recommended). Truck (2* timming) runs fine with it and no pinging. As I've always said, if you got lots of money burning in your pocket then put the expensive stuff in it. But if you could barely afford the cheap stuff or don't want to waste money on the expensive stuff then the lowest grade is fine (this truck was designed to run off the cheap stuff).
On another note, if you drive this truck very hard (launch at every stop light and redline constantly) then I would recommend you to use top quality fuel. Or if you modify your truck with the basic boltons and ecu adjustment (Uprev) then running top quality fuel is a must.

86/87 octane only...waste of $$ otherwise...18-20 MPG our last trip

87/89 here too, whatever is on the cheap side of the pump.
The real thing to calculate though is the cost per mile of each grade, not the mileage. Mileage alone doesn't mean squat, because all the grades are not the same price.
For example, I always put 91 in the wife's SE-R because the mileage increase pays for the difference in the cost of the gas. An SE-R is 'designed' for super (whatever that means), but the 93 is so much more expensive that I would lose money because the mileage increase is not enough.
Diminishing returns, I think it is called.
