Thumbs up Re: Representin the Mariana Islands

Wow!

Welcome To Titantalk!

Just curious as to the price of gas on the island and I assume you see a lot more variations of vehicles from the East than we get here in the Continental US...

A lot of history where you are...

Re: Representin the Mariana Islands

Thanks Guys/Gals,

Well were a U.S. Territory similar to Puerto Rico; located 8 hours from Hawaii and 12 from the mainland (L.A.). We were under Spanish Rule for almost 500 years, lots of Spanish Ancestry here and the Native people here which I'm one of, are known as "Chamorros". English is the first Language here and we have a diverse set of people who call Guam their home.

Gas here currently which just went up this past weekend (Regular) (Thank God we can use Reg) is at $4.07 a gallon.

As for my black covers, was waiting on a fellow TT member, but no show as of date.

I'll post it soon if I don't hear from him/her this month.

Re: Representin the Mariana Islands

I here you guys in Guam have a real problem with Brown snakes that were "imported" from Australia. Are you having any luck in eradicating them?

Re: Representin the Mariana Islands

Just had to go there...lol

Well we've had snake reports here and there; but it gets a little over exaggerated by media and those who stopped by here. I've been on this island since birth (1974) and seen about 3 snakes during my lifetime. The "brown tree snake" thing supposedly smuggled itself through in-coming cargo but to my understanding have declined dramatically due to starvation. I'll be sure to run one over with my Titan should I see one as they are not endemic to our island

Re: Representin the Mariana Islands

That's great to hear the problem is going away. I had heard there were hardly any native birds left because the snakes had eaten most of them, and that the snakes were always shorting out the power grid because there were so many of them. From what I hear the Brown snake is very aggressive so if you come across one be really careful.

Nice ride bro, we had a group of Soldiers from Guam come to Colorado to work for about a yr. Great stories they used to tell me about their home.

Re: Representin the Mariana Islands

Thanks Keytal and 37L1; you all have nice Titan's also. 37L1, nice to hear you remember the island. 1970 Agana Heights, near Naval Hospital? Good to know that some of TitanTalk know where I'm at.

Keytal, you prob met our reserve/guard forces there; glad they shared some knowledge of our island. Not to many people know where we are.

It's been a while but we were up past the hotel where the airline crews stayed, The Cliffs???

Surfer, Boat Basins, Rick's, Merizo. I worked for a while at the Continental TravelLodge in Tamuning.

It was weird being in the line up watching the B-52's from Anderson fly over on their way to Vietnam. We used to have to pull over on Marine Drive to let the ammo convoys by pulling the ordinance from Agana NAS to Anderson.

Re: Representin the Mariana Islands

Hafa Adai,

Nice truck like MarksOwn96 said looks good especially in that island sunshine. Was there for typhoons Pongsona an Pa'ka' with a team from Saipan to help re-establish power on the island I must say hospitality was beyond my expectation. Oh, yeah I am Chamorro from Saipan been gone from the island now for 5 years living in Oregon.
