i guess you didn't see my post lol.
DO NOT use 400 grit. yes, you need to ruff up the lights to get the stuff to stick. but i used 400 grit first and ended up having to buff the FUDGE out of my lights and start all over. 400 leaves too deep of scratches that show right through the VHT, doesn't matter HOW many coats you put on to try and cover them up. trust me, you will end up with WAAAYY too dark of lights with scratches in the paint.
so use 800-1200 first. apply 2-3 coats. LIGHTLY wetsand out the imperfections. then put 2-3 coats of clear. buff. the more you buff the better the shine.
yea i seen that one, only one so far. haha, that's actually the reason why i haven't done mine yet.
oh PS... i think if you VHT the headlights you should also do the black headlight mod so you don't have the "deep blue sea" look from the chrome in behind.
Re: trying to black out tail lights with VHT progress pics!!
Plan on doing this sometime... seen some horror stories so I've always been leary. I did the headlights because I knew the plastic cover would cover up most of my F-Ups...

i'm gonna do the headlight mod myself then do like 1 coat of VHT. i think that's what you should do too. don't go overboard with the VHT. just 1 coat on the headlights and 2-3 on the tails. (i did 3)

No I cracked the headlights open, sprayed the reflectors... i wouldnt spray the actual clear lens... doesnt look near as good.
Re: trying to black out tail lights with VHT progress pics!!
I did my tails about 6 months ago and now they are all dull looking and pretty nasty. I havent sanded them though. Would you guys suggest sanding them and then spraying them again w/ another few coats of clear and then get my buff on??? any other suggestions????

IMO, you should leave them rough, spray the clear over them so it sticks, and then wetsand/polish.

yea but you have to reallllly sand em down to get the paint to stick. i sanded almost all the chrome off. (takes absolutely forever) then i used the krylon flat black plastic spraypaint. and a coat of matte coat so they would be more durable.
