help! Ticking noise!

I own a 2004 Titan KC, when the truck is cold and i start it up, a real dominent ticking noise occurs, it will last until the truck warms up. I was thinking its a worn out bushing in the exuast somewhere, but it sounds like its coming out of the oil pan, has anyone had this same problem? I dont want to take it into nissan and get charged out of the yingyang for a problem that i can fix myself! any suggestions?

Re: help! Ticking noise!

Titans are known to have noisy fuel injectors, mine are definitely pretty noisy when the engine and ambient temps are cold. Quite noticeable inside while idling at a stop light or pulling out of the garage.

I posted up an audio clip a while back of the noise, let me see if I can find it and you can see if it's the same sound you hear.

Could also be a leak in the exhaust manifold, these are also common and get less noisy once warmed up.

Re: help! Ticking noise!

Could be exhaust manifold crack, as it quits when warmed up.
Injector tick keeps on ticking after warm up.

Re: help! Ticking noise!

FWIW, my injectors quiet down once the engine warms up and they are definitely noisier with a cold engine in "cold" weather. Inside the cab it sounds like a lame PowerStroke diesel common-rail injection without the diesel knock.

Re: help! Ticking noise!

Mine does it to...so annoying.i took mine to the dealer to have them look at it cause i thought it was manifold crack and all they told me was normal injector noise,if ya ask me they dont want to spend the money on replacing the manifolds.

Re: help! Ticking noise!

I have cracked manifolds and they are way louder than the injector ticking. To me, the injector ticking sounds more precise and defined, whereas the exhaust ticking has a "mushier" ticking sound and is particularly obtrusive if you drive with the window open alongside a concrete barrier or through a tunnel.
