Fram filters are utter crap with horrible anti-drainback valves. They're known to cause valvetrain noise at startup due to oil draining out of the filter and back into the pan. What happens next is you start your engine and it's run "dry" for a couple of seconds while oil is pumped back into the oil filter, then finally into your engine. This is baaad on your engine.

Please use a high-quality filter and put the Fram where it belongs...in the garbage.

when i did a search i found that the nissan OEM filter receives pretty good marks. some use purolator and still others are popular. the threads i read had many people agreeing that the nissan filter is great.

Mobil 1 5w-30 + OEM filter seems to work great for me so far. i'm planning on changing every 6 months or 5,000 miles.

Re: oil pressure

For now, I'm sticking with the Nissan filter (Since that's the one used when the dealer changes my oil. ), otherwise I would probably use the Mobil 1 or Purolator filter.

Re: oil pressure

Thanks for the info! I changed my oil this weekend went with MOBIL1 5w30 and the MOBIL1 filter (had to order NISSAN filters). Drove back to TEXAS about 300miles all was well. Got up this morning and had a CHEVY truck for a snack before work and my oil pressure drop again!!!!!!!!! Well I guess it goes to the dealship now.

Re: oil pressure

having the same cold star oil pressure problem in the NE. i think it takes a while to warm up the aluminum and get the oil flowing. i generally let my truck warm up (when i'm not running too late for work) for a few before taking off. my guess is this is a low or 0 clearance engine, so no oil = very bad.

Re: oil pressure

I agree you should stick with the nissan oil filter. I 36k and zero engines noise at start up.

Deep.
