Just this morning as I was driving to work, my Titan stalled. While I was driving the RPM started to decrease and the truck lost power and came to a complete stop. The SES light came on the dash. I waited a minute and started the truck back up. I was able to make it to work, but the SES light is still on. The truck currently has 27k miles. Any ideas? Could this be the IPDM going bad, a relay or a bad cat? I havent pulled the trouble codes yet (how does one do that w/out a diagnostic tool)...Thanks...

.....BTW. I have an appointment with the dealership this Friday....
I was told by the dealership that the SES light was due to a bad ECM/ECU. Part is on special order and should be covered under the 8yr/80k mile warranty.... Hope that solves the problem...

The ECU is part of the IPDM, not covered by warranty I hear. My 04 Titan, 68k miles died while driving, started back up, made it home, then had trouble starting again. IPDM controls the fuel/air ratio I read. So, I ordered a new IPDM from Courtesy Nissan in Richland TX for 128 bucks, includes shipping. So far, so good. I heard a dealer would have charged $1200 plus for the part and install. Not hard to do yourself, tight space though. Nissan really needs to do a recall on its IPDM's, this is happening all over the place!
Driving down the road and stalling wasnt exactly fun or safe!
Just got my Titan back from the dealership. Would have gotten it sooner, but they had to special order the ECM. They replaced the ECM under the 8yr/80k mile warranty
In addition, they also replaced the recall on the rear center seatbelt, but did not replaced the condensor fan recall because it was the proper type 1 fan 90 watt motor.
Knock on wood, hopefully it really was a bad ECM, so far no SES light & drives fine

Having installed a new IPDM in my 04 Titan a couple of days ago, a couple
of previous problems have also disappeared. My low tire pressure light doesnt stay on anymore and when pulling my travel trailer, the left blinker would
not work previously, having checked all fuses and replaced bulbs. Now with the new IPDM, it works fine. Amazing what that little box controls.
What's the part number for that IPDM? I have an 04 and the SES/CEL light came on so I pulled the code, P0507, and started reading all these horror stories on various nissan sites about how cleaning your throttle body can screw up all kinds of things on nissans. Not sure if it's true or not. I just cleaned my TB a week or so ago and have noticed the idle is a little higher when I'm stopped at a light. This is one fragile truck.
The ECU is part of the IPDM . . . . .IPDM controls the fuel/air ratio I read.
I don't think so. IPDM is a power distribution module which has a bunch of relays and costs around $100 or so. ECU is engine control unit, controls air/fuel ratio and is closer to $500.

I got this from **************;
How's the IPDM-ER circuit board work on my Titan!?! :
ECM (Engine Control Module)
The Engine Control Unit or ECU is a designated computer that was developed to manage the engine control system. The ECM consists of electronics which are mounted on multi-layer circuit board. The ECM monitors and adjusts the air/fuel mixture and utilizes a catalytic converter to minimize amount of pollution produced from the engine. There are two modes of operation, closed loop, which means the computer has completely taking over the operation system. And open loop which is used when the engine is cold and operates on a preset program. The engine must be at operating temperature before it can go into closed loop.
ECM Engine Control Computer
The ECM monitors the input and output signals produced by various sensors in the system. The ECM then adjusts the system as necessary. Sensors can include: oxygen sensor, coolant sensor, mass air flow sensor, air intake sensor, crankshaft angle sensor, throttle position sensor, camshaft angle sensor and knock sensor. The ECM operating program consists of information cells. These cells hold the code for proper engine operation, if information is out side the cell parameters a MIL (malfunction inductor lamp) or "check engine light".
So, I guess I shudda said ECM. My bad! Either way, I replaced my IPDM
and Titan is working great now!
I have a 2004 Titan 4x4 Crew Cab SE model with the off road package.
Everything said above was pretty accurate with the problems I was experancing with my truck.
At first it would stall and then when I went to restart it it would just crank and diesel a couple of times... eventually it would start.
A couple of times the engine would just die out while driving and the dash lights would flash... again after a few minutes it would start, but the really solution was to bring it into the dealer I thought.
Anyway I came top this forum and another... and found this thread on the IPDM which pretty much covered my problem.
I called the dealer parts guy and asked him about the IPDM and he gave me a response that It could be a whole bunch of things, crank and cam sensors to name a few... from the sound of things I was going to be up at around $1400 to have it fixed.
I then asked him about just buying the IPDM and again he gave me the run around eventually quoting me $240, but again trying to get me to come into the dealership for a full evaluation.
It's your IPDM ECM relay, not the entire IPDM. Nissan doesn't sell just this relay. Instead they sell the complete IPDM module. You can purchase the IPDM for $300 or have them replace it for $1,200. Go to ebay and type in Nissan Titan ECM relay. They are $18.95 and it fixes the problem. Everything else controlled by the IPDM is working on your truck. Your lights are working. Your gauges are working, Your air, obd etc. It's a simple relay swap that will fix your problem. Replace only the part that needs replacing. For a temporary fix in an emergency, you can swap your fog lamp relay with the failing ECM relay but this relay will not last as it is a 20 amp relay and the ECM requires a 35 amp relay. It will get you home but it won't last long.
I hope this helps.
