There is a way to get codes from the vehicle without tools!!
This is the procedure:

1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition to the on position and wait 3 seconds.
2. Repeat folowing procedure quickly 5 times within 5 seconds.
a. Fully depress accelerator pedal.
b. Fully depress accelerator pedal.
3. wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the mil light starts blinking.
4. fully release accelerator pedal.
note: It is better to count the time accurately with a clock.
The ECM returns to normal conditions when ignition switch is turned off.
The number of blinks indicates the DTC code!!

That is so intuitively obvious as to require no explanation.

I don't know about you, but I would have taken my 'cat' to the vet if it had a hole in it.

Question Service Engine Soon Light after Oil Change

I changed my oil this weekend and a day later the "Service Engine Soon" Light came on. I used Mobil 1 synthetic and a fram filter. Any suggestions before I take it into the shop?

Re: Service Engine Soon Light

Wow, talk about reviving an old thread.

I'd get to a shop ASAP to figure out why it's throwing the light... i've never heard of this happening during an oil change.

Re: Service Engine Soon Light

P1168 Closed Loop Control (Bank 2)

DTC: P1286
Search Bulletins/Recalls for P1286

Trouble diagnosis name: Air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor 1 (Bank 2) circuit high voltage

Component Description

The A/F sensor is a planar dual-cell limit current sensor. The sensor element of the A/F sensor is the combination of a Nernst concentration cell (sensor cell) with an oxygen-pump cell, which transports ions. It has a heater in the element.

The sensor is capable of precise measurement λ= 1, but also in the lean and rich range. Together with its control electronics, the sensor outputs a clear, continuous signal throughout a wide λ range (0.7 < λ < air).

The exhaust gas components diffuse through the diffusion gap at the electrode of the oxygen pump and Nernst concentration cell, where they are brought to thermodynamic balance.

An electronic circuit controls the pump current through the oxygen-pump cell so that the composition of the exhaust gas in the diffusion gap remains constant at λ = 1. Therefore, the A/F sensor is able to indicate air/fuel ratio by this pumping of current. In addition, a heater is integrated in the sensor to ensure the required operating temperature of 700 - 800°C (1,292 - 1,472°F).

DTC detecting condition:

The A/F signal computed by ECM from the A/F sensor 1 (Bank 2) signal is constantly approx. 1.5V.
Possible cause:

Harness or connectors (The A/F sensor 1 circuit is open or shorted.)
Air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor 1
