A/C Drain Leak

I was cleaning the Titan this weekend. Washed and waxed the outside and complete detail of the inside. As I was removing the floor mats to vacuum, I noticed a wet spot on the underside of the front passenger mat about 3" in diameter. After pulling the carpet back I found the source of the water. It was coming from the A/C drain. I have a 2WD SE CC Born on 12/11/03. I live in Houston so I have used my A/C almost everyday since I got my Titan on 12/26/03. I also clean my Titan once a week. Yesterday was the first day I noticed the water. So, this just happened recently.

I have had this happen in other vehicles including Nissans. Usually a crimp in the AC condensation drain tube or it's clogged. Once it happened right after an alarm install, so I think at least once it was the installers fault.

I used to get that on my Jeep Grand Cherokee what I used to do was stick a straightened clothes hanger in to the drain what was hapenning was debris would get stuck in the drain and instead of draining out of the vehicle would drain exactly where you are describing. I am not sure if that is what you need to do however.

I hear you guys. I did research the problem on SUnday before I brought my vehicle to the dealer on Monday morning. On Monday evening the dealer said they were unable to reproduce the leak. I would not take the truck back. They gave me a rent car and they are going to try and find it today. Anyway if you look at the Titan "Drain Tube" it is not actually a drain tube but a piece of plastic mounted onto the firewall. It looks like it pushes through the firewall onto the spot where the A/C condensate drains. I think it might have pulled away a little bit from vibration or general movement. I shall see today.

After a second trip to the dealer, so far so good. My service tech said it would not surprise him if he starts seeing more Titans come in with this problem.

My Titan went in this morning (2nd time for this issue). I checked w/ the dealer at lunch and they said they could not duplicate the problem. After I pleasantly reminded them that in GA, our lemon law gives them 3 shots, they called back and said they are seeing signs of moisture in the passenger floorwell. They are going to keep the truck over the weekend (they are covering my loaner car) and contacting Nissan. They believe it may be an o-ring or seal in the AC system. In order to get to it, they will have to dismantle part of the dash. I expressed my concern, and told them that I hope no additional rattles/ noises develop. They said dismantling the dash and putting it back together usually eliminates any existing noises. I hope they are correct. I can't wait to see what happens. Will post the outcome Monday or Tuesday when the truck is ready. Stay tuned..............

As far as I know they did not take my dash apart. If you look under the glove box you can see and easily access where the drain goes through the firewall.

No problem with mine on this issue, ....yet. I am always glad to see the water from condensation dripping on the driveway when I am at home. At least I know it's outside the truck, well at least most of it anyway.

Mine was dripping on the driveway as well as inside the vehicle. Keep an eye on it.

The dealership replaced the drain tube from the AC condensor and I now have water dripping under the truck. Yea!

I am letting the passenger footwell dryout for 24hrs before I put the rubber floor mat back down. Hopefully this is the end of this issue.

Re: A/C Drain Leak

my entire floorboard on the passenger side is soaked...they say it is from long distance driving due to the drain tube is not long enough so that while driving on the highway instead of the condensation being on the road, the wind blows it up inside the cab...nissan told me 1000 dollars to take my dash apart to get to the evaporator tube that is clogged...even though water is still draining on the ground. they make a service bulliten to fix for all titans...go get it....i aint spending a grand for any job a hangar can fix..

Re: A/C Drain Leak

It does seem it is hit or miss as to whether or not the drain tube drains in the floor or outside as it is supposed to. On my '05 it drained in the floor on the passenger side. I had to get the TSB to fix that. On my '08 it pours out
from under the engine. So I guess I got lucky this time.

Re: A/C Drain Leak

Also take out the in cabin filters and make sure there is no debris in there. Since this is Houston, we get all sorts of pine needles and other shiznit in there.

You'd be suprised what can sneak through the cowl and into the HVAC system!
