Jeff,

Thanks for contacting us. "Nissan is aware of the issue they are having with the head unit in these vehicles". You need to make sure to report this to your local dealer. You can also contact them at 1-800-NISSAN-1 for further information on this problem.

I am having problems with FM reception in my new Nissan Titan Pick-up. The stereo FM fades in and out (sounds extremely muted). These are on local stations which I have never had a problem with here in the last 20 years with 6 or so different car receivers. Many other Nissan Titan truck owners have mentioned this problem according to internet websites... Is there a fix for this? Thanks .

Not yet as far as I know... I sent an E-Mail regarding the problem to Nissan on Monday and have not received any response. For those of us with the problem, make sure to express to Nissan that the situation is unacceptable and needs to be resolved ASAP... Otherwise early Titan owners have the risk of being ignored and being stuck with replacing the systems ourselves...

I wonder did RF sell the whole package to Nissan (including the Panasonic head unit)? Or are they just politely telling you it's not their problem?

Good Question... Personally, I want the issue fixed correctly or some money back from Nissan so I can replace it myself... Rockford-Fosgate put their name on the product and it is important that they take responsibility or pressure Nissan for a fix... The amount of negative publicity; especially if it is visible at at "trade shows" for the industry; will cost a company a lot more than fixing the product...

I think this may be a good move. If all that have experienced problems with the RF stereo will write or call RF perhaps they will "help" Nissan fix the problem or replace the parts. Can you post the contact info to respond to at RF. Thanks

I sent an E mail to Rockford Fosgate telling them that since their name is prominent on the faceplate I hope our problems do not reflect a quality issue accross their entire line. We'll see their response.

Albi,

Thank you for your inquiry with us. Unfortunatly we are only a parts supplier for this system. Nissan does all the installation and quality control on these. You can give them a call at 1800 nissan 1 and discuss this issue with them.

Customer (Albi Villaverde) - 06/29/2004 07:15 AM
Just wanted to let you know that the Rockford Fosgate OEM radio in my Nissan Titan has some quality problems. Specifically the radio fades in and out many times during a short drive. This is very annoying and I think it needs to be fixed. I complained to my Nissan dealer and got the "cannot duplicate" run around. When I purchased the Titan, one of the extras that drew me to the higher end package was your name on the radio. I hope this is not a reflection of your products, but many Nissan Titan owners are having the same problem and the Rockford Fosgate name is prominent on the faceplate.

Thanks for you time

Albi Villaverde

I realize this thread is a rehash of previous posts regarding the radio problem; however, how can RF claim Nissan is responsible for the QC of a part mf'd. by RF????

Because RF didn't actually manufacture any of the parts!?!?!?!?! Clarion, Panasonic and Rockford "Foster" components.

Just wanted to post my message to RF

Just wanted to send a message that as a former Rockford Fosgate owner I was excited to find that the truck I wanted to buy had a Fosgate stereo option. Of course I bought it as I loved my previous Fosgate equipment. I now have the truck but the stereo is the worst I have heard ever. I have done a lot of research only to find out that your company is basically selling it’s name to Nissan so they can charge more for a stereo that sounds terrible. It is a shame that you sully your name by not helping those that have written your company requesting help. If you cared about the customer you should fix the problem. If it is a Nissan issue, your company should pressure Nissan to correct the it as the product is hurting your image. If you don’t think this issue hurts your image, go to any Nissan Titan forum and look up your company’s name. The stereo with your name plate on it has been given a new name made up of the parts of which the stereo is comprised (Clarion, Rockford And Panasonic = C.R.A.P.) Obviously, people are putting a lot of time and thought into their disdain for your stereo.

Here are a few links to forums you might be interested in:

There are many more threads with many more complaints.

Non-RF Radio

I didn't get the RF radio with my Titan, BUT I have pretty much the same problem. The radio sounds a bit 'tinny' and as was mentioned prior, the radio stations tend to goto a lower sound level (speed sensitive is turned off - most annoying thing I've ever seen, but that's another story!) and I've never ever had that problem on any other car radio I've had in my previous 5 vehicles. Yeah, run into the occassional reception problems, but what do you expect from direct reception FM radio (maybe that's the answer), but nothing ever like this. Have a friend with a 4runner that had a similar problem, but said they put in a subwoofer and the problem was fixed.
