rear seat belt too high?

I really like my truck so far. Today was the first time I had some passengers in the back, and I found that the rear seat belts (the outer ones) are placed too high, running the belt over their throats. Not exactly a safety feature in case of a crash!

Anyone else see this as a problem?

Anything I can use to fix it (a gadget to get the belt lower, off of their throats)?

The kids were complaining about the same thing last night. The belts ride very high and are not adjustable. I have seen gadgets at Walmart that might help out.

I haven't had anyone belted in the back except my kids in their boosters, but I did notice the angle wasn't so great.

I have my 8-year old son sit on a gray boat floatation cushion, matching the seat. It is about 4" thick and helps a lot.

Nissan should use the adjustable top anchors back there like they did in front.

I agree. The owners manual says to use a booster seat until the child is big enough to sit without the belt riding on their neck. I couldn't convince my 15 year old son to use a booster seat though.

Have you guys had problems with your front seatbelts continuing to get tighter and tighter around your waist as you drive. Mine bugs the crap out of me on long trips. I find myself holding some slack with my left hand to keep the pressure off.

I use a sliding belt lock that holds the belt where I put it. Bought some many years ago but assume they are still available at auto supply stores. For safety reasons they are not recommended but the constant pressure bugs me enough to use one anyway. Paul

Thanks Paul, I'll see if I can locate one of those locks like yours.

If you have any trouble finding one some of the "gadget catalogs" have them. Here is one example: the one I use is like the one at the top of the page. Paul

The belts on my 1990 Pathfinder used to slowly tighten up too, so it's probably inherent to the design Nissan uses. I got clips similar to what LastHurrah has at Target fairly recently when my five-year-old nephew stayed with me a while. They seem to work pretty well.
