help needed- what to do?

my rear axle seal is leaking again. so i called the dealer(i live 2hrs away) he said depending on the rear end i have they are only replacing the whole rear end or just most of the shaft.(don't remember exactly what he said).

i do have an 05 off road, big tow Titan. i lost my e-locker for a tru trac last year. so if/when they replace the whole end i would lose my tt.

so question is what are my options? what would you do? what part numbers do i need to request?

Thanks guys.

Re: help needed- what to do?

Are you still under warranty?
I don't know if you can request a certain axle, they probably just install what's available.

Re: help needed- what to do?

There's no need to replace the entire axle! Ask your dealer what is his reason when all you need to replace are the seal, bearing ring retainer and ABS rotor. The tech may request for a new bearing/race and axle shaft bearing cage just in case the old one gets damaged while getting pressed off.

Re: help needed- what to do?

i have an aftermarket warranty. seals alone not covered. but is covered if replacing more than just the seal. won't know until dealer makes the claim.

dealer said ideally they would like to replace the whole rear end b/c it'll just keep having the same problem. won't know for sure until next week. but wanted to get info on it before i go up there.

he did say specifically say they will not just replace the seals b/c they will just continue to have the same problem. i forget exactly what he said but first option would be around $850. and second would be a whole new rear end- which the dealer prefers.
