What's An Easy Way To Remove A 2004 Titan Fan?

I am replacing my radiator and I got everything loose and got down to removing the fan. I will damage the coils unless I remove the fan. The fan has four nuts. I saw another post that said the nuts take a 10mm wrench. No 10mm wrench I have will fit. I tried a 10mm, 9mm, 11mm, and none will work. I even tried standard 3/8, 7/16, etc. I got a crescent wrench on it and got it to fit the nuts. But, the pully spins. I guess I will have to get a pipe wrench or a pair of channel locks to hold the pully while I remove the nuts. To make a long story short this really has me pissed. My truck is down untill I remove these four nuts!!!! Nissan really screwed us on these radiators!!!

Re: What's An Easy Way To Remove A 2004 Titan Fan?

I used a straight 10mm ratcheting wrench, no offset, to loosen and tighten my fan nuts. To keep the fan from spinning during the process, I inserted the blunt end of a cedar shim between the belt and one of the pulleys. For both the removal and installing the fan nuts, I accessed two of the nuts from the top and the remaining two nuts from under the truck. I had to remove the cedar shim to the opposite side of the pulley for re-installing and tightening the fan nuts. Everything worked like a charm. Just make sure you remove the shim before starting the engine.

Re: What's An Easy Way To Remove A 2004 Titan Fan?

I sprayed mine with PBlaster a few minutes beforehand. There were tight, but they came off without any issues. My engine compartment stays very clean so maybe that and only 60,000 miles kept them from being a problem.

I have leftover nuts and studs from the mechanical fan if anyone needs replacements. Free as along as I can get them in a regular envelope and a first class stamp.

IIRC, TitanFan was removed with a Ban Hammer. Anybody remember that?
