Help..truck seem to have mutiple issues at same time!

Go to start truck today at lunch time, nothing. No cranky. I got some weird clicking noises behind the dash on and off, and the gauge needles were bouncing back and forth slightly. No headlights at all, but the dash warning lights are nice and bright.

im thinking maybe the dreaded IDPM or the ECU relay (btw, im having trouble finding the fog light relay to switch it with, my fuse box cover does not show a fog light relay being listed)

No power windows or door locks either. so maybe its a dead battery....truck is 4.5 years old though and has low miles.

I may try to jump start it later, but now for the really strange part......my key will not come out of the ignition switch. It just wont pull out. it will rotate the switch, but wont come out. also, i can not shift out of park, even with foot on the brake and key forward, and the steering wheel wont lock if i turn it with key in off position.

WTF!!!

anybody seen this before?

Re: Help..truck seem to have mutiple issues at same time!

You have a bad battery. There is not enough juice for the safety solenoid to release your key.
There is a little emergency flip switch to let you get your key out.
Put your truck in N( if not in P), set emergency brake.
Reach up under the dash toward the key cylinder area, there's a flip switch
that need to be flip to get the key out.
Picture show switch with panels removed but I was able to do it without any panels removed

Re: Help..truck seem to have mutiple issues at same time!

As baseballfanz stated, the battery is too dead to even activate the key release or the park lock solenoid which is why you cant shift it either. Throw a new battery in it and you will be g2g.

Re: Help..truck seem to have mutiple issues at same time!

so i take it this has happened to you as well? I have another car and an extra set of keys, so maybe ill just go buy a new battery and swap it out instead of trying to find the lock release (how did u discover that btw?). i assume all will function normal with new battery

Re: Help..truck seem to have mutiple issues at same time!

Once you get a new battery in there everything will be good.
I had the battery died on me before yes.
The key release thing I saw in the service manual.

Re: Help..truck seem to have mutiple issues at same time!

To get the key out, reach up under the drivers side area and toward where the lock cylinder would be.
There is an emergency release button for the key. Might have to look around, but it should be there.

Re: Help..truck seem to have mutiple issues at same time!

New battery did the trick.

worth noting, even after new battery, key still would not release. I had to manually re-set the button underneath the dash.
