Air Bag Deployment

I was driving down a gravel road doing about 50 mph .. then boom the front air bag deployed . lucky i never killed anyone or got killed .. Nissan canada and the dealer ship would not cover me because they said there most have been an impact... my insurence company looked at the truck and said there was no evidence of an impact and the deployment was due to mechanical fracture....

I needed my truck back so i paid for the repair 4000$

Has anyone else had a problem like this or have heard of any recalls??

my airbag light still flashes all the time and was flashing when the deployment occured..

Re: Air Bag Deployment

I have never heard of ANY airbag deployment without a proper collision. The airbag controller is a complex and smart little box.

Do a little research on here, I think you'll find that people have been in some proper wrecks and had the airbag NOT deploy...that's the only airbag complaint I've ever seen.

Did you jump something? Look on YouTube, there are videos of people jumping RR-tracks in rentals and such, and blowing the airbags (no visual damage to the vehicle).

Re: Air Bag Deployment

You might be able to count the light flashes and narrow down the problem. For $4,000 there should not be any lights flashing. I would take it back to the dealer where it was "fixed".

Re: Air Bag Deployment

I'm glad I came searching here. My side airbags deployed while on a FLAT dirt road, at about 35, I even have it on video. Took it to the dealer and they said that the airbags deployed on "Roll over". I was *upset* to say the least. When I asked them how I could have rolled the truck with no exterior damage, they said it didn't matter, that's what the computer said. The "one other person that reported this problem on NTSHA website" that Jimmy is referring to is me. I couldn't believe it, ended up filing an insurance claim to get it fixed, and Nissan has done nothing to make it right....

Re: Air Bag Deployment

I offroad my Titan and now I'm afraid I might pop an air bag, just driving down the dirt roads...

Re: Air Bag Deployment

Don't drive this road then...

Seriously though, try other dealerships... That's BS if they don't cover a faulty rollover sensor within the original 36k warranty... FYI, the sensor is located in a box underneath the front center console or center bench seat... Tinkering with it can cause exactly what you described and a few body shops HAVE reported them prematurely detecting a rollover when there was no rollover involved.. IIRC, one went off while just crossing RR tracks... I ran across them awhile back when running Google searches about the box.

Re: Air Bag Deployment

wow... this thread took an unfortunate turn

I ended up paying only the $500 deductable, but the total was over $4000. When the side airbags go off, they destroy the headliner, etc, etc. Hope it never happens to anyone, it scared me, and smacked me in the head!

Oh, and zombie ninjas scare the #@$% out of me!
