Radiator Cap

I think this has been discussed before, and is part of one of the Nissan TSBs. I don't remember for sure so I'll bring it up now. The cap on the left is the one that came on the truck. The one on the right is the one I got from Kragen Auto Parts. Obviously the Nissan cap has something missing...... The end result, about 5000 miles into my truck, it started leaking. ALL OVER MY ENGINE COMPARTMENT!!!! I smelled the coolant one day as I was driving, and when I stopped I opened the hood to find radiator coolant everywhere. The fan sprayed it over everything. So anyway, I don't know if any of you have ever removed your caps, but I believe that extra part in the center with the spring needs to be there for it to drain and vent correctly. Anyway let me know what you guys think.

Just checked mine, and it looks similiar to yours. It looks to me Nissan uses a different setup than most cars. Normally that spring will release the pressure and allow coolant to flow in the resevoir. The resevoir in the Titan is sealed and pressurized and takes the place of the old style cap (hence the warning on the resevoir "Do not open hot"!)

I wonder why yours leaked? Did it come from the cap? It is pretty chincy, could have distorted under pressure.

Yeah, It came from the cap. There was coolant everywhere around it. An I dont know if its sapposed to be that way, because the inside of the radiator cap housing matches the new cap. Not to mention, all caps say "Dont Open Hot"

I know the cap says "Don't open Hot", but I'm talking about the Resevoir. Most resevoirs can be opened hot (they aren't pressurized), but the Titan's is.
