Me and the boy took off the tailgate last night...., thanks to you guys here.......and we laid it down and gently tried to fill the dimple sized dent with factory touch-up paint. A couple drops into this process we noticed that the paint settled as a bubble and no matter how we tried to "pop" it with tooth picks, it wouldn't flatten out. As reality sunk in, we looked at each other, wrinkled our foreheads and decided to swab out the paint with the Q-tips we brought down just in case this happened, and removed the paint. It left just enough of a film to protect the dent from chipping, then we turned to plan II.
As a former youth football coach, I had a stash of helmet "atta-boy" decals. We found the skull and crss-bones, about the size of a half dollar, and placed it perfectly over the center of the dimple. Ah, technology!
