Unhappy How is Everyones Overall Paint ?

As I have been meticulously maintaining the appearance of my Titan, I have noticed that the paint job is not of top quality. Has anyone else noticed such things as bubbles (subtle) and chipping or flaking not due to road debris, alot of orange peel. Do you think that the dealer would do anthing about this????

No real orange peel, but on my roof I have a few paint drops along the right side groove. First noticed them when I waxed the thing after owing it a week. Search for other paint problem threads on this site. I've read a few of them and some had the dealer/manufacturer repair them.

My frustration with this truck continues. I was washing it today at a self-serve carwash and was spraying the front bumper, and a section of the paint came off. It's about the size of a golf ball. I have been washing cars/trucks for years and never have I encountered this problem. I am sure that the dealership is going to say that it was my fault somehow and try and duck responsibility, but I will not surrender that easy. It is reminiscent of the days back in the late 80's when GM could not seem to adapt to the new painting process and Beretta's and Corsica's were losing their skin all over the place.
Needless to say, I am not impressed with Nissan and or their quality controls (or lack of) at the US plant. There are many a days when I feel as if I bought one of the last cars that were made in the movie Gung Ho with Michael Keaton. You may remember the ones that were rushed through production so they could meet their quotas. If this was Nissan's first venture into producing cars/trucks it would be expected. However, since they have been in the biz for decades, I would think that some of these commonalities that go into every vehicle, such as the painting process they would have a better handle on the process. I guess if they don't want repeat buyers, than there business plan is working.

Hey Tuff, a few other guys have complained about the same thing and said Nissan fixed it no questions asked so you should be fine. I've noticed the paint on this truck seams to be thin, seems like only two coats or something. My last truck was a 2000 Silverado and the paint was way thicker and seemed more durable.

caltitan I have noticed the paint drops through out the truck, all are near the edges of the windows or seams. Also it does appear to be awful thin.
Dont get me wrong though, I love this truck !

I found 2 minor spots while detailing...one looks like a speck of tack rag, the other looks a little bit like a fisheye (silicone contamination perhaps). Neither are much to complain about, and I will scratch it eventually while driving in the mountains and the desert. That is what I bought it for. Also, the paint along the roof gutter on the passenger side looks a little bit thin along one of the seams. Otherwise, no orange peel or other flaws that I can see.

Thanks for the info Big Platinum. I will make an appt. tomorrow to take the beast in to the dealership later in the week. I did look through the owners manual, and it recommends washing with a sponge (entire vehicle) but does not state that you can't take it to a car wash. So needless to say, I don't think they will give me any problems.
Hopefully my frustration will cease. I've got a list of a few other repairs that are needed so maybe I can turn this duck into a swan! I really like the truck, and I think Nissan did their homework in the overall design. However, their QC sucks!
Thanks again

Over spray on passenger door

I just purchased my truck on 07/09/04 I noticed overspray on the passenger side door. Also the moulding on the passenger door is coming off. I'm taking it back this week to have it fixed.

I've noticed as well the paint sucks... the sheetmetal is thin too which doesn't help.... I have a KC black, it has the typical orange peel, and while to be expected an unusual # of swirl-marks so far (i do the hell out of preparation and think this to be a bit unusual.... on the back d/s of tailgate i have a spot where it simply looks as if it wasn't painted enough, its grayish... I think i'm going to try to get the dealership to do something about this.

The back top corners of my bed are pretty well orange peeled as well as much of the door jams. Compared to my 90 Maxima, the paint is pretty bad.

years ago buddy of mine had a brand new 5.slow that did the same exact thing, pressure washer @ the do-it-yourself car wash took off about a 2 foot by 1 foot section of paint on the pass. side door. Peeled it off like a fruit roll up! Ford technician said it happened because that section of body hadn't been preped @ the factory. Of course was fixed no Q's asked.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what does orange peel mean...My side panel is coming off also, and the door jams on my black cc se arent't paint, you can tell where the shine stops...what can the dealer do about this? Is this something I should be concernwith overtime? I drive my truck many miles and don't want this to become a serious problem after my 3/36000 is up...

Orange Peel: A paint surface with a texture of "hills and valleys" similar to the skin of an orange. Excessive orange peel is considered a paint defect. It can be reduced by sanding, compounding, and polishing.

I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. I bought a new Nissan Murano (03) for my wife last year and within a week started seeing the paint chipping in different areas of the car but mainly on the front. Took to the dealership and they said paint issues were dealt with directly from Nissan so they had an inspector come out to examine the car but would not even allow me to talk to the man. Needless to say, he said the chips (12 in the first month) were caused by road debris. I went to Nissan customer service and they said to call BBB if I was not satisfied. I did and went through arbitartion. They say in Alabama that arbitratraion is a license to steal and it proved to be so. They ruled for Nissan and the car had approximately 40 places where the paint had been damaged. I swore off Nissan's at that point......but like I first said, I must be a glutton for punishment because I'm driving a new Titan. The paint on it is very thin and I have noticed a couple of fisheyes and a couple of sctatches. My dealer said, "well you wanted a black truck" to which I replied that I had just traded my 03 GMC with 20,000 miles with barley a blimish. Anyhow, I knew what I was getting into. The point is, is don't have a lot of faith in Nissan backing up their paint issues!
Sorry this is so long, but had to give background.

The paint is real thin in the bed of my Titan. I have scarred it so far with a cardboard box and a plastic trash can. I showed the damage to two dealership's service department and they both said that I should have got a bedliner. To keep the costs down , Nissan had to scrimp on a few things (i.e. paint, radio, and quality of it's Mississippi workers.
