Nissan trannies will exhibit a symptom where they won't 'hook up' coming off a partial stop. This is probably the biggest symptom of the trans fluid being low, other than a higher than normal temp reading on your gauge if you have the big tow package.
It will feel like you hit a slick spot on the street: Rolling up to a stop sign, you're mostly stopped, but you see the way is clear and so you stab the gas. You get nothing for a second and suddenly, BAM!! you go. The movement will be pretty violent if you're low on fluid. This reverse/forward load on the torque converter is probably the best way to notice if you're low.
