Tailgate falling apart?

Was loading a keg into the bed of the truck when my buddy noticied an issue with my taligate. Of course he is a dodge ram owner, so he loved pointing it out to me. The black piece that encases the handle and lock is actually coming off of the tailgate. Its half way off and may fall of if I go over a big pothole. What the hell is going on? Guess back to the dealer, anyone else had this happen?

I had the black plastic bib on the outside of the tailgate replaced already. They needed to replace the Nissan emblem also when they replaced the bib. They didn't understand that at the outset, so they had to order the emblem and I had to go back again.

So is it always required to replace the emblem or just in your case?

I was told in all cases. The dealer said they were relying on some instructions from Nissan regarding re-use of the old badge, but that doesn't workout in practice.

That is Nissan standard operating procedure, making you come back two, Three, Four and Five time for almost anything that needs to be fixed or replaced.

I just had mine replaced as well, and got the same deal on the emblem except they ordered a new one and glued the old one on in the meantime. I've never gone back because there seems to be nothing wrong with the glue job. The black part is nice and tight but I need to go back now because it won't lock after they worked on it!

Good glue on emblem, bad locksmith work!
