Re: E-Brake Parking Brake Failure 2008.5 Video

Yipes, a damn expensive mess! It goes to show that just like the ol' bumper sticker reads, **** Happens.

It seems like you have the wherewithall to fix it yourself that will soften the financial blow somewhat.

Re: E-Brake Parking Brake Failure 2008.5 Video

I'm not sure if this is common but I use my E-brake a lot when loading and unloading my boat at boat landings.

The gernaded part could have been avoided if I would have replaced the inner pads as soon as i heard the clicking but I put it off for a while and bam! on my way home from work my truck made a big thud and the rear tire locked up for a second. I thought I blew up the rear end but it was the bracket being broke off

The red arrow shows the part that broke off. I hope that is part of the bracket I ordered today???

Looks like I'll need to pull the axle to get the new bracket in place

Re: E-Brake Parking Brake Failure 2008.5 Video

I had the same thing happen in december but mine took out the axle seal and the parking brake actuator when it went. Doh!

Nissan doesn't cover this under the 5/60 warranty? I can understand that it doesn't cover the e-brake pads but...

FYI that part that broke off on your truck is the bracket to mount the parking brake actuator and parking brake shoes. It seems like we had the exact same failure mechanism, except mine just bent the actuator in half instead of braking the bracket off. The actuator bending and falling off of its mount and into the teeth of the speed sensor wheel is likely what took out my axle seal.

I guess I'm going to add parking brake pads to my preemptive replacement list. What source are you guys using for those parts?

Re: E-Brake Parking Brake Failure 2008.5 Video

My dealer says the part # for a new bracket is not on the drivetrain warranty

I'm glad it was only $100. for a new one but I will need to pull the axle to replace it

After asking around I found out this happened on my bother in-laws Blazer and a friend from work said his brothers ford did the same (shoes falling off the backing plates).

Re: E-Brake Parking Brake Failure 2008.5 Video

The parking brakes on these trucks are worthless, I have had to change to sets already on an Armada and Titan and they are pain in the rear. I know I will be replacing mine when I go and do my brakes within the next week or two.
