Tire Pressure Monitoring

Just some TPM Info:

My Tire Pressure warning light turned on yesterday morning. Stopped and looked at the tires and they appeared ok. When I got home from work, I checked the pressures in all 4 tires. All were between 34 and 35 psi hot. Filled them all to 40 psi and drove it around the block. The warning light stayed on. Left them at 40 psi overnight. Let them back down to 35 psi (cold) this morning, and when I started the truck, the light stayed off. Probably just one bad pressure sensor. I think that I will let them down one at a time to about 30-32 psi, to see if I can find the one that isn't working correctly.
You LE drivers can just check your screen

Yeah, if you have the NAV package, which I don't. This is the very reason I just want the TPM disabled. So far the light hasn't come on, even with no TPMs in the wheels, but someone mentioned it takes 20+ miles for it to notice. My drive to work is only about 8 miles, so I guess I won't find out until I make a longer trip. Maybe the mechanics actually turned it off like I asked and just fed the cashier some bs about it being impossible, wouldn't that be nice.

I guess that they could have turned it off, but I am betting that legally, they can't do that. I am not so sure about the 20 mile statement. From what I have read, it shouldn't take that long.

Here is what the owner's manual says...20mph not 20 miles ???

LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING
SYSTEM
This vehicle is equipped with the low tire pressure
warning system. It monitors tire pressure of
all tires except the spare. When the tire pressure
monitoring system warning light is lit, one or more
of your tires is significantly under-inflated. If
equipped, the system also displays pressure of
all tires (except the spare tire) on the display
screen by sending a signal from a sensor that is
installed in each wheel. If the vehicle is being
driven with low tire pressure (lower than 28 psi,
193 kPa), the low tire pressure warning system
will activate and warn you of it by the low tire
pressure warning light. This system will activate
only when the vehicle is driven at speeds above
20 MPH [i](32 km/h). For more details, please refer
to .Warning/indicator lights and audible reminders
. in the .Instruments and controls. section,
.Tire pressure information. in the .Display screen,
heater, air conditioner and audio systems. section
and .Low tire pressure warning system. in
the .Starting and driving. section.
WARNING
c If the low tire pressure warning light
flashes while driving, avoid sudden
steering maneuvers or abrupt braking,
reduce vehicle speed, pull off the road
to a safe location and stop the vehicle
as soon as possible. Serious vehicle
damage could occur and may lead to an
accident and could result in serious
personal injury. Check the tire pressure
for all four tires. Adjust the tire pressure
to the recommended COLD tire pressure
shown on the Tire and Loading
Information label to turn the low tire
pressure warning light OFF. If you have
a flat tire, replace it with a spare tire as
soon as possible.
c When a spare tire is mounted or a wheel
is replaced, tire pressure will not be
indicated and the low tire pressure
warning system will not function. Contact
your NISSAN dealer as soon as
possible for tire replacement and/or
system resetting.
c Do not inject any tire liquid or aerosol
tire sealant into the tires, as this may
cause a malfunction of the tire pressure
sensors.

Hmmm, well I definatley have driven it well over 20mph. I really wonder if the mechanics actually turned it off for me as a favor. When I was in the shop I asked and they said no problem, it was the desk jockey who said they couldn't do it. Perhaps they turned it off then told the paper pusher they couldn't do it to cover their own hides. I guess I'll find out on the next long trip I take.

Sammy,
I guess if it is still hooked-up you should see the low tire pressure warning indicator light up briefly after you turn the key to the "on" position. If it doesn't light up then they must have disconnected it or pulled a fuse for it (if there is one).
