Question Nissan Dealer put Matic D when changed transmission oil on my 2007 Titan

Last Thursday asked my local Nissan dealer to change transmission oil on my T 2007 non BT 4x4. I asked them what kind ATF they will use and Tech over the phone said Matic D, I said that the dip stick calls for Matic J, but he insisted on Matic D saying that it is fully compatible...
And now today I saw yellow warning label, located on the right side when you pop the trunk, which says not to use Matic D oil for AT or it will damage the tranny...
*Is the dealer Tech right about using Matic D???
It is the long weekend and I was hoping to do take my travel trailer out, but now I am very hesitant.
*Can I still drive/tow with my Titan?
Can’t wait to call them next week to clear this up. Hopefully no damage is done to the tranny. Will let post what I found out

Matic S replaced Matic J. Matic D goes in the transfer case, not in the transmission.

That sucks! If there was any doubt, why didn't the tech just get on the computer and see what Nissan recommends? BTW, last time I had all fluids changed, the tech told me Nissan now recommends only synthetic for the rear differential. I guess they got tired of replacing all those rear ends.

I was under the impression that synthetic has been the recommended type for rear diffs since they started putting the finned covers on them in mid-'05.

Before you go back to the dealer, just make sure he actually changed your tranny fluid and not your transfer case. I would hate for you to make the trip for nothing.

Also the volume of fluid might offer a clue as well. The transmission will likely take a dozen of so liters (a guess) for a fluid change whereas the transfer case would likely be far fewer. What was the volume of fluid shown on your printed invoice?

yes, check you reciept and see what was actually done. The transfer case takes 2 qts as for a drain and refill on the transmission is 4 1/5 to 5 qts of matic s fluid which is about $8 a qt

Re: Nissan Dealer put Matic D when changed transmission oil on my 2007 Titan

The receipt has the following items:

-A owner request to replace transmission fluid..
-110 transimssion service 944 CN -NET: 68.80 TOTAL: 68.80 (labor)
-5 LOCALATOIL ATF/QT NET: 4.23 TOTAL:21.15 (actual fluid)

So they put 5qt...they did not specify Matic D in the receipt, but the Tech was specific about it, and as I mentioned above we had some back and forth about that. Also they sold me an extra QT Matic D for Long Tru Cool Tranny which I installed yesterday...Now i have to come up with alternative plans for the weekend to keep family happy..

Or you could run it with the matic D, if you blow your tranny the dealer gets you a new one. I think that's fair and not dishonest, seeing as how they insisted on the matic D. And who couldn't use a new tranny?!

Man that sounds like my stealer ship. They put 75-140 gear oil in my transfer case. I ran it for 8k miles before i saw it on titan talk about the proper fluid to use. Then said they didn't but I had my reciept and the left over bottle they gave me. I threw a fit because the service manager called me A liar. The owner of the dealership Met with me and we worked it out.
They gave me an extended 60k warranty on my t-case. And some free other services.

Re: Nissan Dealer put Matic D when changed transmission oil on my 2007 Titan

I would definitely take it back and have them do a complete idle drain and refill with all Matic S... Matic D is for the transfer only... now you have a mixture of Matic J (S) and Matic D in your transmission... not good...

Re: Nissan Dealer put Matic D when changed transmission oil on my 2007 Titan

I called the dealership yesterday and another tech confirmed that Matic D is compatible. I tried telling him about warning labels and specs listed to use Matic J, but he continued to say that he knows all that and have specs from Chevron (maker of oil) and that Matic D is fully compatible to use with Titan. I want to stop by there tomorrow to meet with service manager and try to get them put this on paper.. Will update tomorrow..
