"Grid" Marks on Roof

When I took delivery of my new LE, I noticed what appeared to be a couple of long scratches on the roof. The dealer sheduled me to bring it back in to be fixed.

When I took a better look, the "scratches" appear to be in a regular grid pattern over most of the roof. The marks going lengthwise are about 4" apart and the ones going crosswise are about 10" apart.

To my eye, they appear to be under the clear coat.

I told the service manager that I didn't want them to repaint or do anything too invasive if simple buffing didn't take them out.

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what I should expect, or ask for in terms of compensation.

I bought a new truck and don't want one with a repainted roof since I've never had good experience with repaints in the past.

Since I noticed the problem before leaving the lot, and since they appear to be some sort of defect as opposed to a simple scratch, I'm thinking they should give me a new truck. After all, they have a no questions asked return policy for three days/300 mi and I only have 500 on the truck.

Any thoughts?

That's awfully nice of them considering they'd have to sell the truck as "used" if you brought it back even with such little mileage (since it had been titled to you). As for the marks that's really odd to me, perhaps a system to keep the truck centered at the plant for the laser guided welds and such? Don't blame you for wanting a different truck tho good luck...

Everything is OK

I got the truck back today and everything looks good. They were able to get the marks out without doing anything too invasive, just buffing. I'm convinced that they weren't scratches but were some sort of marks that had been transferred from something that had been laid on the roof. The marks were perfect and looked like someone drew them on with a white marking pen and a straight-edge in a 10" x 4" grid pattern.

The dealer was a puzzled as I was.

Wow, I had same thing but figured it was dealer done and not factory. I too didnt look at top of roof when I took delivery. I took it back and they brought in a professional detailer and he was able to buff it all out without any wet sanding. Looks good now, cant see any scratches at all.

Might have been that white shrink wrapping they use when they transport cars, and the grid lines could be from the machine that applies them. I dont know if Titans come with that wrapping on the roof, but most new cars I see do to prevent stuff from cars that ride above them on the transporter from getting on the shiny new paint.

Initially, I thought of the shrink wrap as well, since there was a bit of the adhesive from it on the hood, but that just rubbed off with a cloth. This didn't.
