Sorry guys, jumping ship...

Well, after numerous problems with heater (not working after 3 trips to dealer and parts ordered that didn't work), squeaks and rattles in dash, ticking on acceleration...I have decided to trade in for 04' f150. I test drove one today and holy crap...what a difference. The truck feels solid as a rock...much better handling in my opinion. As far as engine goes, I could not see a difference...noticeable anyway. I'm sure if you rev both to redline the Titan will pull away, but that is not how I drive a truck. I take advantage of the torque and keep the rpm's low, and with the ford I saw no disernable difference. Interior gets the one up on the ford for sure. I am not a Titan flamer...I loved the truck, but even for a first year truck, the problems that I have had and have seen are rediculous in my opinion. I think car makers need to be held to a higher standard...and for people to explain away problems due to first year manufacturing is bs (I was guilty of this as well unfortunately). Even if the problems are completely fixed, I will always wonder when the next rattle will happen or when the heat will go out...just not up to it, especially after spending $30K. I'll still check out the board as I have gotten much good info. on here.

good luck to all who have any of the problems listed above. Hopefully you will get them fixed and they will stay fixed.

take care,
Alan

how bad of bath did you take on your Titan? I have been thinking about the same thing....there are good incentives on the F150 right now and I have X-Plan to boot.

Well, comparing apples to oranges really b/c I went from king cab titan to crew cab ford. Lost about $3000...worth it to me though for no worries and no squeaks and ticks.

I am afraid to even go and try......I have over 12K on my titan CC SE OR BT package and in my experience I can smell a bath....

I paid a shade under 33K and probably wont see much more than 22K for trade.....

never know until you try though I suppose....

Funny thing is.........
about two weeks before buying the Titan I totalled my 2003 F150 Supercrew. I could have bought any truck I wanted and I drove them all. It was basically a tie between the 2004 F150 and the Titan. I chose the Titan because it just fit me better. Price wise the Ford was cheaper and I still went with the titan.

Now I really wish I would have just gotten another ford. My 2003 had 49K miles on it when wrecked. It was never in the shop for anything more than an oil change. In 49K miles I didnt have even 1/4 the brake dust I have every other day with the Titan. It never rattled or squeeked, the front end didnt need three sets of struts in 12K miles.....need I say more?

Wow I dont know ,but I hear more and more about bad Titans. I myself looked at the f150 before buying mine, KC,LE,O/R BT...... I found the 150 underpowerd .When I test drove the Titan I loved it. I have no rattle, ticking,. I think it feels as solid as the 150 I test drove and took overnight.I have only had the radio and the gas filling problem twice .Thats it . I even look hard for those problems people are talking about.
I feel that my Titan is very quiet and smooth running. I pray it stays that way. I have 8000 miles on it.I also use it like a truck alot of hunting ,fishing off road stuff ,and hauling my camper. I tell you what it beats my 2000 GMC z71, ext cab. I had problems with that stupid truck the day I took it off the lot. It rattled, knocked, rear end broke twice, trany went out twice, front end was hosed, interior ripped, you name it it happened. I also had a 1996 Ford 150 before that.I also had a 1992 dodge 4x4 before the ford. All of those I had a lot of problems with. So Im trying the Titan. If it starts going the way of my last trucks Im done. Im so sick of the crap that comes out of the car companies. Well so far so good nothing major with the Titan,
Good luck with the Ford!!!!! When you get it keep us posted on how things are going with the 150 ok.... Best Wishes!!!!!

I truly believe that ALL mfg's have there share of problems. I have been reading the F150 boards as well and there seems to be some problems there too. I think the difference lies purely in numbers. How many F150's do yo suppose were sold this year and what percent of those owners are actively online?

I know this board has about 3000 members and I have to assume that most of them own Titans. How many Titans were sold this year? <50K units pretty fair estimate?

I would guess ford sold over 150K F150's probably more so it would seem that there are probably fewer per unit problems with the F150 then the Titan. It is just a pure numbers game........

Actually, the rattle in the dash is not a simple fix, unless you call taking the dash apart simple. The ticking problem is also not a '5 min. fix', as resetting the spark plugs did not work. And yes, three trips to the dealer and a control unit later...still no heat. I'll keep you guys posted on the 150. Like I said, I'm not bashing Titan...wicked truck, I just think they have a little work to do to get it right.

Last November I had an '04 F150 for 2 weeks. It was a nice truck, but even a Hyundai is nice when it is crispy new. The first time I sat in the driver's seat of the Titan on Dec 6, I was sold. The F-150 has more options, but handling and performance didn't match up.

One more thing I have to lay out as a rule... Everyone makes a bad car, regardless of the manufacturer. I have had 2 Toyotas and both were so bad I will never own another. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, but going with the F-150 is still a gamble on how many probs you might have.

With the fiasco I just had, if Nissan isn't willing to work with me on anything, I think I might be considering a FX4, or an Avalanche.

I just drove an 04 with 15,600 miles on it. It definetly handles better and is more predictable than the titan. The power of the Titan definetly gets the head up though. The 5.4 is no slug either though.

Titans don't have front struts.
