Another Ticking Question

I started a new thread on this because I'm not sure if my ticking is the same as everyone elses (happens on acceleration or under load). I would describe it as sounding the same (metallic tick - passengerside dash) but it happens all the time from road vibrations.

I brought my truck in today to have the radio replaced and this looked at. I test drove it with what appeared to be a mechanic's assistant and he definitely heard the tick.

The service advisor just called to tell me the good news - they found the source of the tick - and the bad news - that the noise is a relay that is supposed to switch on and off and that the noise is normal. I told him to go drive to go drive it himself and tell me if he thinks it should be normal.

I guess my question is - does anyone else have the tick not under load or acceleration?

Thanks

I have it both accelerating and over rough roads. The rough roads part occurs during braking, accelerating (worse then) and when at a constant speed.

If it truly is a relay. It sounds like it may have a week coil or spring to hold the contacts open or closed (read relay's normal postion while driving). If we knew the location we might be able to adjust the mount to lessen the noise or find a replacemnt with stronger springs/coil... Just my two cents and if you can get any extra info I would be willing to give things a try.

Mine does it too...

Almost sounds like a pencil or pen rolling around and hitting plactic/metal inside passenger-side dash. Kinda bothersome, but radio drowns out for now. Can definitely hear it when radio is off though. Would like to know if there's a fix.

After several trips to the dealership for this noise, it's still not fixed. The first time they didn't hear it, then I went with tech on a test drive and he heard it. After this, he found that a "heater valve that bolts to the cowl loose" and then removed and reseated the spark plugs to no avail. The dealership said they couldn't fix it and told me that before I picked it up from them and suggested that I call Nissan's customer care line, which seems to be my only alternative at this point. Has anyone else already done this and if so, what type of response did you receive from Nissan?

I've got it too, please give us location info when you have it, maybe we can resolve it here.

Truck41, I forgot to mention that I found the fuse puller loose too, a couple of months ago and taped it, but it wasn't the answer to my ticking problem. Thanks for the suggestion.
