Unhappy Door Weld Defect

As I was doing my stereo install, I came across a crack in the passenger side, rear door of my king cab.

The dealer tells me Nissan has agreed to replace the door, which is good news, the bad news is that the new door will come unpainted and the body shop will have to paint and match the new door. My one month old truck with 2,500 miles on it, will already have bodywork done to it.

Anyone else have similar problems?

My mother had a 4-runner that was heavily damaged from Hurricane Isabel after only having it like 2 weeks. The body shop had to replace a couple of fenders and basically paint about 60% of the SUV. I mean it when I say that you cannot tell one single spot that was painted vs. the old paint. Shops do such a good job now with paint mixing and matching that you will never know the difference (the dealer did this by the way). Just be glad you found it now vs. 3 years from now when your paint has had a chance to fade a bit...then it would be a little harder to match up.

I know it's a bummer, I would be pissed too...but you will be as happy as a lark once it's done!

I have mine all apart right now, all my doors (crew cab) look good. There is some kind of reinforcement mat bonded inside the door to the outer door sheet metal. It looks like Kevlar or something. Anybody know what's up with that? Is it for strength or sound deadening?

I am keeping my fingers crossed. I really wish the dealer had caught this before I bought the truck... it was not a latent defect that showed up later... it's just that their detail crew dropped the ball.

Alas, hope the quality of my paint job will be as good as yours!

Bestatchess,

My Armada had that stuff on sections of the doors as well. Seems like sound deadener to me, but who knows. I dynamatted over it. My Armada has the nice Mercedes "clunk" door-closing sound now. Yeehaaa.

Ask what body shop its going too and then call the Better Business Bureau and check if they have any major complaints. If they do insist that your truck go somewhere else

The weld on my door hinge broke. Nissan replaced it with a new hinge, its been at the body shop for 3 days! as well as the dealer for 2 weeks.
