Rear Tires bald in the middle??

Had the Titan on a lift yesterday changing the oil and noticed that the rear tires are at the wear indicators in the middle. My first thought was they are over inflated, nope, both are at 38 psi (tire sidewall says 44 psi). I've never, ever, ever, so much as squeaked a tire with this truck so its not from wild burnouts.

The truck has 12,700 miles on it and no I haven't rotated the tires, didn't see the need really, my hubby's Ram has 23k on its tires and they are all worn perfectly and still very deep in tread with no rotation. The tires are 265/70R18 Goodyear Wrangler SR/A.

Anybody else wear the tires out that fast? Its never happened to me on any vehicle like it has this one. I don't really care since I hate the tires, but still means I need to replace them soon and that's annoying. Good thing I planned on buying winter tires this year.

Were your tires cold when you checked them? If they were then when they get hot they are running @42 PSI. That means they are standing on the middle of the tire and your wear issue is explained. I run mine at 32PSI cold.

I have been fighting this somewhat also. By the time you air-down the tire to where you achieve the maximum/even contact patch, there low pressure indicators go off. I live in a new construction area, so it is very easy to see that at 35psi the outer 1/2 inch on both the in and outside of the tire isn't covered with any dirt, therefore overinflated. I figure that the tires need to be in the 28psi range but the LPT indicators will always be lit.

You guys have the off road?

I know I kept mine at 35 and the outsides are wearing funny, I bumped it up to about 38 cold, 40 hot, and aside from my gas milage being significantly up, it seems to ride a lot better. Only time will tell about tire wear.

You guys hit it, I asked my tire guy today and he said the optimium tire pressure for that truck running empty would be 26 psi, unfortunatly my tire pressure light would be going nuts. He said the only real solution is to rotate them every 3000 miles or so. He also said that the fronts wear even because they have the weight of the engine on them, but the rears are wearing because there's no real weight in the back.

Going to be putting snow tires on the truck soon, well, maybe, I'm having second thoughts now because the Blizzaks are soft rubber and that truck will shred them in no time unless I rotate them all the time. Ah the joys of truck ownership.....*sigh*

One of my 4 tire has worn significantly more than 2 off the others and noticeable more than the 3rd and yes I have had them rotated. I have arount 15,500 and that one tire needs to be replaced right now.

Has anyone gotten relief from Nissan or a tire company?

Go ahead and rotate them correctly every 15K, I got the BFG'S on mine and when I first got the truck it looked to me there was not alot of thread new. I now have 43,000 miles on them and they look like they will be needing changing in about another 10K. I thought the same thing as you when it had only 12,000 miles on them, I guess they just don't wear as fast as you might think.

cold tire pressure per door sticker is 35psi. this takes the vehicle weight into account. its what i run and they look to be doing fine.
