I just spent a good 10 minutes writing a post about the AC problems with my Titan, but then my computer shut down and I lost it all. Blast! Anyway, I think I'll outline my problems tomorrow. In the mean time, please post ANY experiences or knowledge that you have about AC issues with the Titan. More on this later, but my lawyer and I (we grew up together) will be turning to litigation in a few months or so. I've had all of the common AC issues plus a few others, all in extremes--insanely loud "hiss" every 10 to 15 seconds, inconsistent air temperature, and a compressor that WILL NOT shut off under any circumstances---even if you turn the truck off and then back on ( and yes I'm aware of the defroster thing). I read the manual, cover to cover, six times, been to an unhelpful service center three times, and been on the phone will Nissan 10 times. I've had enough. More later, but thanks for reading. In case you forgot, the picture in my posting pane is Milton-from the movie Office Space. If you haven't seen it, drop what you're doing right now and go rent it. It should be required viewing for all adults. "Have you seen the buh....I was told that....if I was late again....I would be severely dismissed." "I believe you have my stapler." "It's a swingline."
That hiss is normal and common on Nissans. My 2001 altima makes it and 98 frontier did also. Its the compressor cycling on and off. I think the A/c is controlled by the ecm now.
Do not worry about it. The A/c in my ex 92 ford explorer went deathly quiet at 78k and cost me $1500 to get it cooling again. My frontier had almost 140k when I sold it and never an a/c problem.
Im not worried, I think it's f'ing stupid that it makes that noise. Was this such a hard thing to fix. Not to mention, I think there was a TSB for the fix on the altima...or at least one of the other Nissan's that do it. Just because Firestone tires all blew up doesn't mean that there wasn't something wrong with them. Granted it's an extreme example but it gets my point across....it shouldn't do it!

Top 10 Ways You Know You're a Hopeless Procrastinator:
During my investigation of the Titan I noted three concerns with the air conditioning during test drives. They didn't seem to impact performance but I think they are very annoying.
1) The annoying Darth Vadar hiss (perhaps normal to the Titan and Nissans but not, in my opinion, normal to the automotive industry for a new vehicle).
2) Fan clicking noise on speeds 1 and 2. Sounds like a cheap computer case fan in the ducts. I believe the sound exists on higher speeds but is masked by the air-flow sound.
3) High pitched whine noticable in the upper left of the engine compartment. Noticable when standing outside the vehicle when the A/C is on (seems to be coming from the upper left quadrant of the engine compartment).
I do not like the way the a/c is designed either. My service tech gave me the service bulletin,NTB03-048 and told me this applies to my vehicle(04 LE CC). Titans are not referenced in this bulletin(May 03)but he says that the paragragh that says "2003 and later models" applies and to call 1-800-NISSAN1 and make a complaint, which I did. The bulletin basically says that the compressor will run and a/c light will come on when in defrost, max air or turning it on manually. I am fine with that part. You do not get a light if turned from defrost to defrost/floor or any other position but it is still on. It also references the outside temp of more than 36-37F(WTF).Quote "The a/c will remain on with the mode control knob in ANY position, even if the a/c button is off. The a/c can be turned off by turning the fan to off or turning off the ignition." So how do you get outside temp air and not have the compressor running all the time. The lady looked up the bulletin and agreed it was confusing and said that, like all other problems, enough people have to complain....do it
I read the bulletin THyder143 wrote about above. What kind of bullhooey is this? The AC comes on in defrost? I want the darn windshield to warm up, not cool down! If the AC compressor is running doesn't that mean that it is trying to force cooled air into the cabin even if the temp control is set to the highest warm setting? Does that mean that both the heater and AC are running at the same time? If so, isn't that self-defeating?
And for Nissan, how can this be "normal"? Someone needs to better explain this to me so that I can understand what is going on!

The A/C comes on in the defrost mode to remove the moisture from the air so your winshield will not fog up and no the defrost will warm as you increase the temp knob.

I have had my truck in the dealer twice for a/c problems. The first time they said it was undercharged from the factory. The second time they said they could find nothing wrong. The problem is the a/c would work fine as long as it was in recirc mode but when switched to non recirc air it would only blow around 58 degrees. On really hot days only around 63 degrees Now summer is over and it is not an issue but if you check the warranty guide I think it says a/c warranty is only for 12 months. Now that I am using my heater or vent I have noticed it blows air hot enough to also warm my garage if I left the doors open.I think the temperature control could be misadjusted from the factory causing it to blow warmer air than needed. Does anyone think this is a possible reason for the a/c not blowing cold enough air?
I will have to check this warranty for the A/C. It would make sense to me that the 134a charge would be warrantied for 12 months, but the compressor and associated hardware and electronics should be covered under the 36 month and an extended warranty purchased.
