Spare Tire Question

The spare tire on my SE is a full sized Goodyear Wrangler SR-A P265/70R18, but with black lettering instead of the raised and outlined in white of the other four. I expected the spare to match the other four.

What do the rest of you have? Blackwall spare, or matching with the white outlined letters?

My spare has the raised whites, tire and rim match the other four.

I was actually really impressed by this. Show me another full size truck that gives you the same rim/tire combination as what you get. My old F-150 King Ranch had some god awful steel rim on the spare. That sure looked awful on my truck when I had a flat tire...

Just a silly question, but have you looked at both sides of the tire?

Every tire that I have seen with raised white letters, is a blackwall on the opposite side. Maybe they mounted it wrong, or you are looking at the blackwall side of the tire....

Yes, I looked at both sides.

I spoke with a parts man at the Dealership, he told me it should be a matching tire AND have a pressure sensor installed. I am expecting a call on Monday from the Parts or Service manager to get a replacement.

Mine came with the rubber stem on the spare, too (no sensor). I talked with a guy from Schrader, he told me you can have all 5 wheels with sensors, but the reciever will only keep track of 4, so in order to make use of the fifth sensor you would have to have the low presssure system 'trained' every time you rotate tires.

I don't think you have to "train" the system. Look at this TSB:

I'm taking my truck to Goodyear to get one tire checked out. I have a large lump on the side of the tire where it was joint. It is pretty big. Do you guys have the same problem. This could indicate thread separation

That makes the assumption you are doing a 4 wheel rotation, as recommended in the owners manual.
The transmitters in each wheel have a unique ID. So if you are doing a 5 wheel rotation with sensors on each wheel, you have to force the codes out of the 4 rolling wheels so the system knows which ones to monitor.

I have a lump on one tire....they should bluge in, not out where the seam in the sidewall meets. I haven't taken it to the dealer to find out how they do warranty work....I have less than 1000 miles, so I am waiting to see if it changes.

I checked the spare, it has a steel valve stem, but I didn't take it out to see the lettering. (04 se 2 wheel drive)
