2005 Fuel Gauge (Titan/Armada), stuck on Full - UPDATE

I dropped my Titan for service this morning (350 miles). The fuel gauge remains on Full at all time, except when the key is removed.

The service dept. told me that, while they had never seen this problem with the 2004, this is the 2nd time in one week they see the problem on a 2005. The 1st time was a 2005 Armada. It is apparently due to the float being stuck in the up position from the factory (not from over filling). As a precaution, they will probably change the sending unit, but apparently that part is made is Japan, and there is a delay getting them in. In the meantime, by pushing the float down, it works (worked with the Armada).

I'll just have them installed the new unit at the 3750 miles oil change.

I'll keep U posted. I'll know more tonight.

Its just a shame that the fuel that's in the tank would always stay full, not just the gauge!

I just got a phone call from the Nissan dealership. What I stated above is indeed what happened. Apparently, they were able to get the float to function without removing the bed of the truck. The whole unit will be replaced in the future as a precautionary measure. The part is on the way.

The fuel gauge on my 2004 Armada, which was built 09/04, has been stuck on full since I hit about 700 miles. I have about 1200 miles on it now. Fuel gauge worked fine at first. I did notice that it would drop to 3/4 full at about 30 miles after fill- up.

Dealer has ordered sending unit and is going to change out when part arrives.

This pisses me off! I have a 4 week old Armada LE with 500 miles on it. My gas gauge has been on FULL since I got it. I've taken it to the dealer and they said that they've never seen this happen before. Why are dealers so full of it????
I would have so much more respect and tolerance for a car mfg if they just were honest.
They also told me that I was the first person to complain about my front doors rattling.
Now it sounds like it may be another wait to get the gas gauge fixed.

I put a post with my 3 fix wishes here some time ago......one was the fuel gauge problem...my 04 Titan started losing 1/4 tank when I would drive down my steep driveway..and it would not come back up when on level ground...it was replaced last week....and works fine ....so far.hope it doesn't get stuck again...this is BS!!! It happened on day 1.
Still no fix for the bright orange radio display.
NISSAN says a 6% odometer error is acceptable to them.
Meanwhile..they say they have no fix for my transmission problem downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear......seems like you have to put up with X amount of BS to own one of these fossil-fuel chariots!!! Good luck...and to all.

Fuel Gauge Update

To recap:

My fuel gauge was stuck on full from the day I picked my 2005 Titan.

I brought it back to the dealer. They told me the sending unit was bad, but the part was not in stock. They claimed they had "unstucked" it. Indeed it worked for a while after I picked it up. It was after Service hours so I could not get a clear explanation of what was done. Except that the needle drop to 3/4 full after 30 miles. This seems to be a common problem (dying system?).

During Thanksgiving day, the needle went back to Full on its own. 50 miles later the Service Engine Light came on. I have a scanner, and the code it produced was: P0641, Fuel Level Sensor Defective.

OK. The new sending unit was at the dealership for a few days, waiting for me, so on Friday I brought the truck to get fixed. They replaced the unit. The old one was defective according to their tester. It works fine know, though I have not filled-up the tank yet, and I don't know if the needle will drop to 3/4 prematurely.

The plot thickens...

As mentioned in my previous message, a 2005 Armada was being repaired following the same symptoms. His new sending unit DID NOT fix the problem, like mine did (at least for now). The issue was in the dash (I think someone mentioned that before). So, the dealer placed an order for a new cluster. It has to come from the Nissan factory as it, only, can input the mileage. That fixed the problem on the Armada.

So I have to bring the truck back (3rd time). I hate to have the dashboard removed, but apparently it is a cinch with the Titan. In the meantime, I am driving for free. The miles should be as stated from last Friday.

So I am at a loss. It appears we are dealing with a crappy fuel system.

I have had issues with my fuel gauge (among other things) since the day I got my Titan. One time I filled the tank and started driving away. The gauge read empty and the light was still on. I thought that I must not have actually put gas in the vehicle. I went back and tried to fill the tank only to find out it was actually full. Eventually, the gauge showed the fuel level correctly but it took a couple times of restarting the truck. Weird. The thing that bugs me the most about the fuel gauge is that it seems to be miscallibrated. The gauge never shows the tank completely full and the light comes on when there is about 7 gallons left in the tank.

I had the same issue with my armada. The gauge is always at full. Its been 2 months alreadys and the dealer is suppose to contact me and let me know if the part (possibly the sending unit) is ready. Whenever I call them they say the part is not there yet. And they are telling me to watch the milleage while I'm driving to figure out how much gas I still have in it. Weird ... I'm bigining to think if i made a wise choise for going with nissan. Funny, piad $42K for it and I have to act like a fuel gauge.

Same Boat

I picked up my new '05 CC LE last week. With the 220 miles the fuel gauge has been past the Full position since I picked it up at the dealer. I thought I was getting gas mileage that a hybrid wouldn't give me! Anyway I called the dealer to get an appointment and 10 minutes later the the Service Engine light came on...I hope this is the only problem I run into....

My gauge gets stuck on full also. It usually happens when I accelerate quickly, but it will get stuck there for days. I called my dealer and they said they had never heard of the problem. BTW I drive an 04'.

Hi....my gauge sender/pump replacent is doing perfect..at a full top off the needle goes a little above full.....100 miles=3/4 mark...200 miles = 1/2 mark...1/4 comes a little quicker than the others because if I do some fst take-offs it catches up to the gauge by around the mid point....as mpg's drop too...I can't understand how so many gauges can be bad or hanging??? WTF????? These gauges need to all be digital with a second display board..in the center console. Wonder if that is how it is going to be to get my tranny fixed with NISSAN?????

Just filled up my first tank. Averaged 12.45 mpg (is this good or bad?) I too noticed that the low fuel light came on with between 7-8 gallons left in the tank. Will this self-adjust? or is this something to complain about...
