Angry Little Nervous...My Titan has Chicken Pox!!!

Hey,
I have seen other posts on rust inside of door frames but I have rust in too many places to list. The trim pieces are showing the rust flecks all over them that are on each door, the gas cap door, the hood, etc. Has anyone else had these little rust dots on their Titan. They look like freckles or chicken pox and I have no clue what to do. What can I do to get this taken care of? Will my warranty cover it? This really pisses me off. I love my truck but I am not going to have anything but 2 chairs on a frame with a motor and 4 wheels to drive if I dont' get this fixed.

This sucks...I'm going to have to go to the dealership on a mission it looks like...

My other pick-up is a white 98 GMC Sierra. I noticed small rust spots all over the side and tailgate. Someone told me it was particals from the front brake pads that land on the body. Because they are very hot they burn when they land. I waxed the truck and they disappeared.

Is it rust on the paint or rust under the paint? I've had metal chips/particles on my car before that start rusting. If that's the case a clay bar might be your answer. If it's under the paint, the dealer is your answer.

It is called atmospheric fall out, from sitting in freight yards, the factory's yard, rail, etc. Even your driveway to some extent. It is particulate that sets into the paint. It is not your truck rusting. The lighter the color the more you see, but all vehicles get it. My last was white, and I found it and the dealer clayed it. It simply needs washed, then clayed, then well waxed. You'll be fine.

They feel like they are set in the paint. I could see the idea of brake dust/particles on the sides & door trim, but on the hood? The surface is not horribly rough or jagged in any way, it is a very slight indentation where the rust is occurring like 1-2 mm in depth approximately. So, wash it, then wax it first to see if that takes care of it? Or should I use a claybar on it then wax it? I never used a clay bar before. Is that a simple process like waxing?

Thanks for all of your replies. I am not sure what to do. This is helping give me ideas. Keep your replies comming!! Thanks again!!

I had a 2000 White Nissan Maxima and never noticed them before. Huh, okay so I'll go wash it, then claybar it, and then finally go wax it. Got it, thanks Mike H.

You clay first - then wax or clay, polish, wax (or sealent).

Get a clay bar kit it - should come with a pad of clay and a spray bottle of clay lube. You can also use some quick detailer spray if you get overly liberal with the lube and run out.

Piece of advice - take the clar bar and cut it up into 3~4 chunks. If you drop the clay on the ground it's toast - toss it - don't use it again.

Take a chunk , flatten it out , spray the lube on and just run the clay back and forth over the finish with a little pressure. At first it will grab a bit and then smooth out. You're looking for that smooth'. Do about 2' square and move on.

You can clean up the lube with QD spray and a towel (microfiber is best) Any pesky streaks left over from the lube will come off with some QD spray or a 50/50 alcohol water spray.

I noticed these rust spots on my dads truck today. funny thing is that we only noticed it after we washed the truck. so has the clay bar worked out? we might be taking it to the dealer for them to do something about it, so far they have been pretty good. So far we noticed the rust is on the driverside front fender neer the hood, there might be more there might not be. the truck is an 04 but we've had it for only 2 weeks.

This is known as rail dust. The dealer does recognize this and it is usually very easy to repair. The most common solution is they use a clay detailing bar over the whole truck to lift the particles off of the paint. they then follow this up with washing the vehicle and buffing the truck. Works every time. Had this on a 02 Z71 and no other problems after. Good Luck

Yep...claybar was the solution. Thanks to all who contributed. I had forgotten to give follow up on this.

I've had these little pain in the #$% spots on a lot of vehicles. They come right off with good pressure and a washing mit. I never had to use the claybar, unless that would be a lot easier than scrubbing each spot individualy???
