Truck Vibrates when brakes applied

Hey guys

I just did the 15000 mile service on my truck (it was actually about 16500 when i did it). My truck is now about 18000 and some change. I am noticing that when I brake the Truck shake/vibrates. Wondering if I need to change the brakes. Will be sending it to the dealers next week. Has anyone else had similar experience?

Thanks

Dude,

Do a search and you'll see that about 98% of the folks here have had this issue.

It's called brake judder...there is a TSB on it. Mine is in the shop as we speak. I am picking it back up tonight after it's done.

You have the infamous brake judder problem. I just picked mine back up from the dealer for the second resolution on this. They noticed some judder but only turned the rotors. We'll see what happens from here. My Service Advisor said they are still experiencing some problems and Nissan is still working on a permanent fix.

Nissan turns or machines the rotors and replaces the pads on your first complaint. 2nd time around they will replace rotors and pads (front only usually). There is a rumored recall for brakes which will occur in April 05.

If you shop dealerships you may find a service manager to allow on your 1st try new rotors. Worked for me anyway. Demand new rotors, you might just get them.

Agree...use common sense on them.

IF they want to just 'turn them' then ask the following.

"Ok, correct me if I am wrong...but rotors warp due to heat correct?"

Answer - Yes.

"Ok, so if that's the case, then removing metal with turning them makes them thinner correct?"

Answer - Yes.

"Well then, if the rotors are thinner and there is obviously a heat issue that warped them to begin with, why is turning the rotors going to do me any good? If your going to remove metal by turning them, then they will just warp that much faster correct?"

That's not always the case. My dealer replaced EVERYTHING on the first complaint and then turned the rotors on this most complaint. They seem to be better, but I can still feel a very slight vibration when I brake. We'll see what happens with them.

I just had my brakes "repaired". They did turn the rotors even though I argued the point. In the end they have to do what they are told to do by Nissan. I think it's pathetic, but hey what can you do. I figure that when the rotors warp again, I'll take it back and will keep doing so until I reach the Lemon Law number of repairs. At that point I'll file Lemon.

When it truly comes down to it, its the call of the dealer. I mean they are the ones with the brakes off. Nissan has released a TSB yes, but that is going to be a guideline based on what have found through research of brake issues being resolved by dealers. What my dealer is going to say needs to be done may be different from what the dealer down the street says needs to be done. I trust my dealer and my Service Advisor has been very open about 'if it happens again just bring it back and we'll fix it'. I know most dealers would probably say 'we'll fix it but anything in the future is wear and tear'. My Tundra dealer did that to me when I had them do the TSB for it last year.

Four trips and no joy

First three the rotors were turned. Fourth trip, all was replaced. Lasted longer but now acting up again. Nevada Lemon Law ticket is now fully punched. We'll see what happens next.

I have 13K miles with 4 oil changes and 4 brake "fixes". Three turns and one replacement (pads, rotors and pins). The Titan brakes are a joke! I am going to wait till next brake job to demand to see GM of dealership and threaten lemon law buyback. As much as I like the rest of the Titan, this brake thing is driving me nuts. Any aftermarket fix you try will void your warrenty and any chances of lemon law buyback/replacement.

Replaced it all

My dealer(Royal Moore Nissan Hilsboro, Ore) did an outstanding job. This was my first complaint of the problem and the REPLACED the Rotors, Replaced the pad Carrier with a heavy duty carrier and replaced the pads. The also washed the outside and vacuumed inside. They also performed the seat belt recall without me asking . This dealer did a bang up job and the brakes feel fine now.

THe rotors can only be turned once maybe twice. If you just tell them to turn the brakes for now and order the brake kit. Once the brake kit is ordered then tell them to put it on with NEW rotors. Trust me they will. If they dont go to another dealer. Whats the use of having a new truck with used rotors. Also its not Judder it is SHUDDER.
