Bed floor rail covers

Hey everyone this is my first post!!

After reading many posts about problems with bubbles in bedliners my problem seems very minor but still pretty annoying.

I have the tie down rails on the sides and on the floor of the bed. Well the rails on the bed have hard black plastic covers that slide everytime I break hard or accelerate quickly. Especially when I break hard they slam into the front of the bed making an annoying *thump*.

I questioned it when I got my first oil change at the dealer and they said they'd check. Well when I picked it up the guy who helped wasn't there and they had obviously done nothing. I've been way to busy with work and school to follow up with the dealer.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and fixed it or had the dealership fix it?? I'm sure I could "jerry rig" something but I'd rather have it fixed properly.

If no one has had this problem If you could explain how yours works. Is it clipped in, does it fit the rail tight enough that it doesn't slide or what??

This problem was discussed way back in May. I just removed mine to eliminate the annoying clunk sound. I've thought about putting something like black electrical tape or something else to cushion the covers when they hit the bed but I've been lazy and haven't got around to it. I'm not sure what, or if anything, has been done to correct the problem in '05 Titans.

I "hear" your pain also. It took me a couple of days to figure out what the thump was. I have considered drilling a small hole in the plastic and putting in a screw to hold them in place. Anyone have a better idea?

I was looking at this just last night, and I think that what I'm gonna try is to place a small piece of good ole duct tape on the very front edges of each railing, to create a bit of interference between the cover and the railing - this should prevent the cover from sliding back when I "get on it", so to speak, along with the reverse action when stopping............

That's funny, mine only slide backwards, the cover is molded with a stop that doesn't allow them move foreward past flush with rear of the rack. I'd hear them when I'd accelerate...but the molded tab is now broken from my motorcycles being on top of them while loaded in the bed.
I'm going to get a full rubber bed mat, after that's layed down, there won't be any moving around!

Holy Crap!! I've been hearing the thump, and for the life of me couldn't figure out what the noise was. I thought it was something in the fender tool box thing. I'll try to stick some electrical tape in there to stop it or something. Mystery solved!! Thanks.

Throw a nice rubber bed mat back there, it keeps the track covers from sliding and thumping, keeps anything you put in the bed from doing the same, and protects your bed.

Didn't know so many people were having problems with these. Mine are are almost too tight--hard to get on/off--so they don't slide a bit. Do they loosen up the more you use them, causing them to slide and bump? If so, why use them at all?

Mine has the same problem. What I did was take the "track locks" that come with the bed package and installed them on the floor tracks just in front of the cab. This is a little trouble to do, but it is a little more permanent than using tape.

Hope this helps.

Why not just put a piece of weatherstripping on the front of the box in front of the track? It usually has a sticky back and the foam would absorb any impact so it would be quiet. My tracks slide back and forth quite easily but I don't think I would want them too tight or they would be hard to take in and out.

I took the rubber strips off and put some RTV in each of the slides and let it set over night . I put the RTV near the end by the tailgate so that the rubber cannot slide forward and hit the cab. It works great and I can leave the covers on.
