Yes, another brake thread...different though

Alright guys, Im nearing 14,000 miles and I haven't had the judder yet, knock on wood. My brakes were mushy and I had the tsb be done.

Lately, however, I've been noticing that it is taking A LOT of pressure to stop the truck, especially noticeable at lower speeds. It is most noticeable when Im slowing to go into a toll, right before I stop, or as Im approaching a corner to make a turn. I fell like I have to press REALLY hard to get it to stop and it didn't used to feel like this. Is this just brake fade from being heated by braking when I was moving faster...? Im a pretty big guy (can easily leg press over 1000lbs) and yet even I feel it is hard.

Does it firm up and brake better when you pump them?

Haven't tried pumping...the problem is that it is firm...really firm, just not effective. The first 1/2 of the pedal movement is useless, doesn't really do anything (which I'm used to on trucks) it's just that right after that mush, it's like hitting a wall, almost as if some assist mechanism isn't working the way it should and I have to press harder myself to make up the difference.

Also, let me clarify, Im not talking about that split second right before you stop...I mean from like 40mph on down when slowing down for a toll it is like that...very consistent...yet very firm (not what it used to be like...)

It sounds like the brake booster. My Landcruiser is notorious for this.

Page 8-20 of the owners manual has the procedure to check the booster.

Will check it out tonight...maybe...if I maybe have maybe enough may energy. I have to figure out what is up with my home theater system...staticy on cable, ok on dvd...hrm.
