Strange Noise

I have a noise that sounds like a vibrating fan that has started on my 05 CC 4x4 OR and BT. I have heard it a couple of times at low speed (parking lot). It sounds like it is coming from the area behind the radio. Whenever I heard the noise I turned the radio off, the a/c off and still heard the noise. I got out and raised the hood, but couldn't hear it outside. The noise is intermittent and I cannot reproduce it. I am not a mechanic, but I have only had the truck a month or so and want to get it taken care of. I do not drive it daily due to company car. I have noticed it after idling or driving slowly through the woods, but again it;s not very often. Any ideas?

hmmm...

Are you hearing a slight tick, maybe?

If so, there's a couple different possiblities. One is the purge Control Valve, which i had done to my truck months ago-solved the probelm.

The other, if you're hearing a tick under throttle, and it sounds almost like its coming from inside the dash, it could be the grounding issue. I don't know if its still and issue on the 05's or not.

Both of these items, if its either, have been well documented on this site. Do a search using "engine ticking" and see what you get.

If it's not a tick, then forget everything I just typed!

It's really not a tick, it's a continuous sound. I thought at first it may have been the auxillary fan up front, but I checked that first. I hate to bring it to the dealer without being able to reproduce the problem. I haven't dealt with the local dealer yet. I have a friend who owns a dealership dealing in Lexus and exotics order the truck from a friend with a Nissan dealership in Georgia.

What he said ^. My aux fan was missing the top screws and the bottom ones were loose. It was causing a weird vibration untill I got it secured.

Got the same exact problem. I pulled the aux fan off and wrap electrical tape around the prongs on the bottom of the fan to make it more secure. The fan is now tight but I still have the hum/buzz coming from the engine compartment. Drives me nuts.
