04 Titan LE
4X4 / off road
Locker -yes
6000 miles when it blew
No problems since replacement (wish they put the heat sync cover on when they repaced it!! - but didn't)
I tow 1-3 times a year . 6000 lb trailer 1 -8K miles per trip.
Have to cross mountains when towing. Have had engine and tranny temps maxxed out a few times when towing in mountains and engine has cut out due to overheat 1 time in 100+ weather on uphill climb while towing trailer. (not fun!! but no ill effects on truck). Never overheats not towing.
No problems w/ brakes but dealer did replace pads and parts at 15K - Linings were shot but no judder. (thx nissan!)
VDC ?
Having poor tire performance 16K on truck now and tires almost on wear bars!

DS-Thanks,no VDC since you have E-lock

DS,thanks. You don't have VDC since you do have thr E-lock-
Current numbers
10-reporters
10-3.36
9-4x4
9 ABLS if it is correct that all 4X4 have abls-someone correct me on this
7 have Elocker
5-had more than one failure
Both years fail-
3 -VDC
Most tow,but not really heavy.
Some live -drive in hills
Many have brake problems
Failures at low miles-median probably 6000 miles or lower(didn't write them down, and pick the middle one,but you get the idea-not much use before the failure)
1-4X2 and it was a late 27000 mile failure.
Thanks.Charlie

Shouldn't date of manufacture be included with this survey to better establish a pattern?

almost 75% of breakage is coming from e-locker package.

I brought up the rear diff failures to my dealer in suburban Boston, MA. He said they have redone a few. (BTW, the advisor I deal with has an 05 Titan LE, 4x4, Offroad (w E-locker)).

Anyway, he brought up the the subject of the E-locker in the conversation. Please do not take this as a confirmation that it's definitely the E-locker causing the failures. I just wanted to relay the conversation. Also, I think there have been a few failures on '04s before the E-locker was available...

To those that had a failure with '05 models - Did yours have the new cover and synthetic fluid? Think it might be worth knowing.

I thought all '05 models had the new diff cover and 75W-140 synth oil.

Does the 3.36 gear ratio indicate BT pkg.?

Charlie, thanks for taking the lead on this and trying to make sense of it. The good thing is all the info is right in front of us, as long as people are posting correct info, so it's just a matter of time before a conclusion can be made, and hopefully, an accurate one!

New cover and amsoil

Just had a new rear diff cover that holds 92 fluid oz. put on today and had it filled with amsoil 75-140 severe gear fluid. Stock cover held just 68 oz. from my understanding. The transmission shop said they smelt no burnt smell, no metal shavings, fluid was full, but they found "metallic dust in the fluid". They said this was not normal for a vehicle which had only 432 miles on it. They also suggested that I come in once a year to have fluid swapped out. I have a 2006 CC LE 4x4 with big tow, off road and of course the e-locker. As of yet I have not once used the 4x4 option.

Actually, I think it is normal. I believe the gears kind of seat and mesh together when the truck is first driven, creating some dust, which I'm not sure what's the difference between dust and shavings, except maybe the size??? Some shavings good-burnt gear oil, bad. So it sounds like you're okay. Also, it will 're-mesh' if you tow with it as well, so be sure to follow the break-in instructions.

I don't want to give bad advice, so I hope I'm right here...Anyone else...??

I think I remember reading on here that a few '05 models were made without the new diff cover and synth. oil.
