Another leaking Axle Seal??

Well, 18,500 miles, and I am now experiencing another leaking axle seal. The first time happened around 15000, now the other side is leaking. Has anyone else had any problems with this? I don't fell that my 35's would be the problem.

I don't think it would have anything to do with the tires. Maybe the rear axle breather vent is not working right, pressurizing the seals?

The rear diff fluid was in really bad shape by the time I drained it at 9k. It is possilble from the axle overheating from towing to the bad fluid the seal may be damaged??

Since I drained the original oil I have stuck with synthetic and frequent changes, I even put the finned 2005 cover on a few months back..

I may wait closer to the 60k mark and see if Nissan upgrades the seal between now and then.

Do any folks with the 2005 finned cover and synthetic fluid have any seal leaks??

seal failures

do you think the leaks are due to just seal failure alone or is it caused by metallic particles in diff. oil damaging seal & axle shaft seal fit surface ?

Wet spots

I was under the truck this weekend changing out the rear diff oil when I noticed grease marks on the lower inside of the brakes, or that shield that is on the inside of the rim under the axle. I mean the lower half looked wet, but the top half looked driy. What's up with that? Also it looked like a grease spot on a part of my differential around the left side edge, but when I drained the rear end it had lots of gear oil left. Not sure if you call that a weeping seal, if so I'll be pissed because I just put Amsoil in.

Had my left rear axle seal replaced due to leakage but it still leaked. Service rep said he had seen some with an out of round axle housing and they needed to order another part along with the seal to correct problem. The entire axle housing was not replaced only a "seal housing?" on end of axle. Anyway, second seal along with new housing and problem solved.

When a seal is pressed into an out-of-round housing, it will distort seal and leak will reappear.
