Service Engine Light Stayed On!

Anyone else encounter this problem? I started up the truck 1 week ago today to find the Orange/Yellow "Service Engine Soon" Light constantly on. From past experiences with other brand vehicles that had this, I immediately checked for a loose gas cap but found it tighter than my own wallet! I decided to embark on my 200 mile trip + an extra 25 miles or so to the dealer where it was purchased. Fast foward to the dealership service dept. the next day. I was told the large hand held machine which he plugged into the truck for a reading showed a problem in the Can Sensor (it sounded like). He asked me if I had trouble with the transmission shifting differently or noticed a problem and I answered no. Note: This was good news to me in a way because it insured the small amounts of Acetone I had been adding into the tank here and there (its all in another post) is not a problem as I calculated. In fact I did not have any in that particular tank of gas. The tech asked if the truck was exposed to a lot of rain or moisture recently. We did have 9 days of straight rain equalling 13" but that was a week or two prior. That could be it but why would the light go on a week or two later? He took it for a ride and had no further explaination so he reset it. I also had him re-adjust the rear taigate which rattled and they ordered a new front passanger visor which was defective and would not stay clipped up. I have put about 300 miles on the truck in the last week. So far so good!

I guess there's good and bad in that-the light not coming back on.

I'm probably the least technical person around (my motto is in my signature), but I think sometimes a car, or in this case, your Titan, can have one bad 'reading' or scan, and it'll trip the light, but there's no problem, and it just needs reset.

On a side note; Let's talk more about this whole acetone thing-have you seen any marked improvement in gas mileage or performance?

I remember when that was discussed on this board, I didn't know anyone was brave enough to try it.

Re: Service Engine Light Stayed On!

Sorry for the delay buzzkillwill, Could not sign on here for awhile and home computer crashed. Too bad my PC does not have a "Service Engine Soon" light! Here is the link I wrote about regarding Acetone: Acetone As A Gas Additive For Better MPG I was hoping TitanTalk member "vindication" would post his results but has not as of yet. I personally used a total of 12 ounces on 2 seperate fill ups first to test. No problem. two tanks later did another 6 ounces Acetone (mixed w/ Marvel Mystery oil and Amsoil PI/ read link) and was all set to chart results on an upstate trip but forgot to set beginning miles until trip was already well started. I added about 4 oz 3 days ago on half a tank while parked and topped off today with 5 more gallons of gas. So to answer your question I believe I was getting a bit better MPG but have not charted exact numbers as of yet to back it up. I have had no harmful effects, will only add every 3rd tankful or so, and may stop for awhile after this batch is done. I also added about 32 ounces to my home heating fuel tank after it was filled to the max 275 gallons the other day! I'll post if anything bad happens!
