2005 rear differential failures-alloy cover?

Help-did you 2005 owners who had a rear diff failure have the alloy cover. There are about 10 of you-maybe you could chime in.
Here are your initials-names
PP
HBH
HS-a 2004 and a 2005
CASPER
RACERREX
YOMAMA
VYRUS
WYKEDTITAN
LENJ33
QUICKONE
It was suggested that all but one of these 2005's were very early 2005's that didn't have the alloy cover. That wasn't my impression, but maybe you could clear it up.My goof.Thanks.Charlie

Re: 2005 read differential failures-alloy cover?

Don't know if this helps at all, but my 2nd one that went out was an 05 with the new cover.

Re: 2005 read differential failures-alloy cover?

Mine was an 05, but it originally had the 04 cover, I bought the PML cover, mine didn't completely fail. If that helps.

Re: 2005 read differential failures-alloy cover?

My 4/05 production date Titan came with the newest (alloy) differential cover. They replaced it with the same thing.

My 2004 had a build date of May of 04. The original diff went out around 9,700 miles and was replaced with a 05 upgraded version.

Re: 2005 read differential failures-alloy cover?

My truck is an 04. The first rearend was an 04, The second was an 05 with the aluminum cover. The one that I currently have has the aluminum cover. I think it is coming apart also.

Thanks- Sonny-2 fails and another on the way?

Thanks guys-Hawaii-I had a hard time finding you untill I realized that you were HBH-really stupid of me to use initials, but I didn't expect 38 reports-I figured 15-20.
Sonny-I have you down as-2004-4x4-OR-ELOCK-2 failures,one at 6000 one at 8000 miles--yes you tow 3000 lbs-no hills-yes brake problems-no VDC.
Your second failure was with an alloy cover?
I'm not sure how to handle-record-replacement diffs with alloy covers.I'm guessing that there might be more to the 2005 "fix" than the alloy cover and syn-heavy lube.I hope that Nissan did "something" with the guts-better QC,better more expensive alloys whatever???No chance that Nissan will tell us, but if I were Nissan I would sure as heck do more than these bandaids. The engineers aren't stupid-they no that something is "off spec."Car differentials are ancient technology-nothing new there. If their calculations said that the D44(souped up) was enough, then failures meant that the D44 guts were defective,or they had a huge number of demented owners(buyers).
The engineers must have been working feverishly on a solution-I hope it is already installed.Thanks.Charlie

Re: 2005 read differential failures-alloy cover?

LOL, demented buyers/owners... nope, just doesn't cut it. it broke before 4,000 rpms so I'm sure it didn't take 305 crank hp! nor did it get anywhere near the abuse my other cars did/do/and will take for a while more :P

Re: 2005 read differential failures-alloy cover?

Yup, My first one was aluminum with the cooling fins and so is the new one.

Everything seems nice and tight now with the new rear end, seems to hook up a lot better.

Re: 2005 read differential failures-alloy cover?

Mine did not have the aluminum cover. It did not however completely fail either. Just making a really obnoxious sound at low rpm and when slowing to a stop....

The new one they are in the process of installing today has the aluminum finned cover...
