I recently did my second oil change (at 5k) and went with the Mobil 1 0w 40 and an OEM filter. Simple job... done it a ton of times.
Now when I hit WOT the oil pressure gauge will spike up to the High line. I dont recollect seeing that happen before. Btw, my first oil change was done with Castrol 5w 30 at 2k miles (and OEM filter).
Anyways... nothing else seems out of the ordinary. Of course, my oil level is fine. Checked it again this afternoon.
Am I being paranoid or is this rather normal to see? I know the gauge is going to spike some when you hit higher rpm's... just didnt think it would be hitting the H.
Thoughts anyone?
Thanks,
Flim

the only time i ever see my oil pressure gauge budge is when it's first started up and i'm driving off. once the truck is running for a few minutes, the oil pressure is stable.

Yeah, seems to be fairly common with M1. Do a search, there's more on it. When I changed to M1 5-30 the needle would fluctuate alot more than before (I was running mineral 5w-30.) Haven't experienced any problems, and should be fine as long as your level is right.
i would think high oil pressure is better than no oil pressure if that makes you feel any better.
try calling the dealership... they MIGHT have an answer for you but i doubt it because they all seem kinda moronic.
also try the gauge test sequence. your gauge may not be working properly. press and hold the trip button while you're starting your truck. continue to hold it and it will go into test mode. when you press the button, it will go through different tests. one of them tests all the needles. pay attention to the oil pressure gauge needle and see if it doesn't move.

mine does that to and I have just the reg. dealer oil in it. I wouldn't worry.
you have a faulty gauge my friend, had my oil changed at the dealer and next day the gauge was buried , I was concerned the pressure was actually high , took it back and it was around 32 they ordered anew gauge/ sending unit and I have not had the problem in a year now.

? ... Is your truck an 05 model? And where dose your guage read now when your truck is fully warmed up?
Dose the oil gauge move at all when you are on the gas when the engine is hot?
I think the gauge should definately move when the engine rpms go up. It spins the pump faster, therefore, pressure is higher. It should be higher when the oil is cold, and lower when the oil is warm. When the engine is at idle, it will not move because the pump is at a constant rpm.

I agree with you but not all of the trucks are opperating the same. And I cant figure out why?
