Rattle issue solved

Well fellas it's been 7mths in finding but today my dealer Baker Jackson Nissan in Houston found the rattle. I searched the boards for all solutions and never found the fix.

It was a inconsistent rotational like tapping of what sounded like a wooden dowel hitting a steel pipe in a fast manner and would last 1-2 secs.

After having it in the shop twice before for the intermitment sounds it would make he finally diagnosed a lose brake line near the fire wall. At least that was what I was told by the tech there. It was after dark when I picked up the truck so I plan to out and see where he foamed the firewall and remounted the brake line. So now all the power steering brakets, engine mounts, A/C fans, Cooling fan, hood and brake lines have been checked, adjusted and retighten.

It is a quite rumble I hear now from the Endurance sucking and pushing air via Volant and Banks.

My Thanks to "boston" Pat and Jason!

Re: Rattle issue solved

You refer to the firewall, where was the sound coming from. I have a similar sounding tinging coming from the passenger dash area. It always sounds like it's coming from the firewall area behind the dahs.

Let me know, and what exactly did they do to fix it!

Hey saylor -
Are you able to hear the sound at idle parked, coming to a stop, turning left or right, bumpy roads? Can you hear it only inside the truck?

Re: Rattle issue solved

Only underway, speed really isn't an issue, as it does it at every speed. Going down the interstate it's intermittent, usually short spaced, almost a tinging, like a loose wire hitting a tin can.

Talk about dash rattle, is there anyway to stop it. I'm taking the truck in soon, for the TSB for the window/door rattles in the front passenger and driver side. They tried to fix it months ago, now with the TSB I hope they get it.

Re: Rattle issue solved

Ok I looked this morning. In the engine compartment there is a brake line that runs at the back under cowling and very near the firewall. I have ABS brakes. It runs to the passenger side front wheel I guess. It is connected with white clips across bottom of cowling. There is also what appears at first glance is a AC hose. Apparently the routing of these two hoses is very close and the metal brake line was hitting the metal AC line and body of truck due to lose or broken clips. The apparent fix was a piece of plumbing foam/rubber pipe wrap zip tied around the AC line across back of firewall and another piece where the lines make a 90 degree and turn down towards bottom of truck. I'll try and get pics very soon. However I just had an SES light come on....URrrrg! Going plug in my scanner and see what it is.

Re: Rattle issue solved

I thought I would offer this... I had the windsheild replaced recently, in which afterwards there was a dash - like rattle that appeared at different speeds. I found it myself by removing the cowl, (the one that the windsheild wipers go through) and finding a couple broken hold down clips. I re-installed it correctly and viola! no more rattle. I drove around without the cowl to make sure that was the cause first. Oh yeah, don't forget to re-install the wiper washer hose. This may not be your rattle. but someone might benefit from the info.
